Transportation Construction Inspector

This role focuses on inspecting highway construction work to ensure it meets approved plans and standards. You will support project progress and quality by checking materials, workmanship, documentation, and field conditions. As a Transportation Construction Inspector, you will perform the following duties:
- Construction Inspection: Inspect phases of transportation construction work and verify compliance with approved standards and specifications
- Material Verification: Check placement of cement concrete, bituminous concrete, drainage materials, and other construction materials
- Field Measurements: Assist with checking grades, elevations, and roadway or structure stake-out work
- Testing Support: Conduct visual compaction tests of soils, aggregates, and sub-surface layers
- Project Documentation: Complete diary entries, calculations, estimates, and other required project records
- Communication Tasks: Interact with staff, agencies, legislators, and the public to support effective project administration

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- You will work closely with vendors, and work hours may change based on vendor availability. Schedule may be subject to change due to seasonal and operational needs.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,827.00 (before taxes).

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
- Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
- One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job titles or equivalent Federal Government job titles, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
- This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
