Overview

This role focuses on developing a robust monocular Visual Odometry or Visual-Inertial Odometry (VIO) solution tailored for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The successful candidate will design, implement, and optimize algorithms capable of delivering accurate pose estimation under real-world UAV flight conditions, including rapid maneuvers and variable lighting. The position is remote and offers the opportunity to contribute to advanced UAV navigation systems, with potential for future collaboration on related projects.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop monocular visual odometry or VIO algorithms for UAV applications
  • Integrate visual odometry systems with inertial measurement units (IMUs) to enhance accuracy and robustness
  • Test and validate system performance in simulated and real UAV flight scenarios, focusing on fast maneuvers and challenging lighting conditions
  • Optimize algorithms for real-time processing and resource efficiency on embedded UAV hardware
  • Document development process, results, and provide technical support for integration and troubleshooting
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to refine requirements and ensure deliverables meet project objectives
Qualifications
  • Proven experience in computer vision, SLAM, or visual odometry, particularly for UAV or robotics applications
  • Strong proficiency in C++ and/or Python, with hands-on experience in relevant libraries (e.g., OpenCV, ROS, Eigen)
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate and synchronize data from IMUs and camera sensors
  • Solid understanding of real-time algorithm optimization and embedded system constraints
  • Familiarity with UAV flight dynamics and practical challenges in aerial navigation
  • Ability to work independently, communicate technical concepts clearly, and deliver results within project timelines
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
