Lincoln Contracting & Equipment is seeking an Estimating Manager who will provide leadership and oversight for the estimating function, including direct supervision of an estimator. This role ensures accurate, timely, and competitive estimates while supporting team alignment across departments in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Formulate an estimate from proposals and/or blueprint drawings, which would include breaking down fabrications in a bill of materials and working with staff to calculate man-hours to fabricate, roll, and form.
- Researching the cost of items such as materials, transport, labor, and equipment.
- Establishing and maintaining relationships with contractors and vendors.
- Getting quotes from suppliers and contractors within a specified time frame.
- Assessing the risk levels associated with a project.
- Preparing and submitting quotations and details of costs for work to be done.
- Assisting with bids for new contracts and supporting the activities of the sales team.
- Supervise, mentor, and support the estimator in preparing competitive and compliant project estimates.
- Assign workload and prioritize estimating activities to meet deadlines and business needs.
- Review and approve estimates, bid packages, and pricing strategies before submission.
- Work closely with internal departments to gather project requirements and support accurate estimating.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in steel fabrication or the structural steel industry.
- Must understand steel fabricating processes and a basic understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection practices, including knowledge of structural shapes and general industry terminology.
- Must demonstrate a strong willingness to collaborate and work effectively across a cross-functional environment.
- Must have a team-oriented mindset and proactive communication with peers, leadership, and project stakeholders.
- Ability to communicate effectively with vendors to secure pricing of purchased items.
- Ability to work with other estimators on multiple projects at the same time.
- Organized and detail-oriented.
- The ability to work under pressure to meet set goals, budgets, and deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel. Experience with TEKLA is preferred but not required.
- The ability to read blueprints and drawings, customer specifications, and develop cost estimates.
- The ability to manage time well and multitask.
- Ability to work well as part of a motivated team.
- Ability to think strategically.
- Ability to communicate clearly.
- High expectations for confidential and proprietary company information.
- Must understand material grades and meet customer specifications.
