Job Summary
Provide excellent service to customers by assisting the Senior Service Designer, service design staff and Service Manager. Work within NFPA standards to create and draft sprinkler designs. Work to achieve annual company objectives and personal performance goals.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Ability to complete a sprinkler drawing in line with most current NFPA standards documentation.
- Identify the building construction type as identified in NFPA standards.
- Identify types of hazards and appropriate protection.
- Work within a project budget.
- Coordinate work with other trades on non-complex projects.
- Resolve coordination problems.
- Effectively design a project; including cutting pipe with appropriate fittings.
- Select all required materials for installation.
- Operate current version of AutoCAD and related tools.
- Coordinate pipe drawing, heads, hangers & other sprinkler components critical to design, field or other trade affected (non-complex project).
- Conduct field surveys alone or with others to obtain dimensions and information.
- Project hours, installation, field survey results, etc. for a project.
- Meet industry quality standards in drawings, hydraulic calculations, material pick offs and submittals.
- Develop complete material submittals that meet industry standards.
- Complete project paperwork such as test papers, insurance permits, punch list.
- Identify contract scope and communicate deviations.
- Troubleshoot and anticipate potential problems.
- Order all materials necessary to complete a project.
- Communicate with customers in face-to-face meetings, providing accurate and thorough information, leaving a positive impression.
- Have complete knowledge of all applicable fire codes, including NFPA 13.
- Serve as project leader, directing other team members and reporting status to Service Manager.
- Work with other departments to service customers.
- Achieve company annual objectives and personal performance goals.
- Operate in compliance with company safety practices.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications- High school diploma or GED required.
- 2+ years of experience in Fire Protection design required.
- Engineering background is a plus.
- Some mechanical aptitude required.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Hydratec CAD, and stock listing programs required.
- NICET Certification is a plus.
- Positive attitude required.

Physical DemandsThe physical requirements include regularly sitting, seeing, talking, and hearing; occasionally using hands for tools or controls; walking and reaching; light work up to 20 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently. Operation of a computer, telephone, calculator, copier/fax is required. The employee must understand and write simple memos, summaries, and business letters.
