Overview

The H&K Group, Inc. is searching for a Project Engineer to support projects throughout Northeast PA and the Lehigh Valley, with a current focus on the following counties:
Susquehanna, Wyoming, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, Carbon, Schuylkill, Lehigh, and Berks. The ideal candidate is self‑motivated, organized, competent, and professional, with experience in planning, design, and permitting of civil engineering projects (highways, subdivisions, land development). Bridge experience is highly desired. Candidates must have a strong knowledge of stormwater, erosion and sediment control, water and sewer design principles, and be able to interpret and apply municipal land use ordinances.

Responsibilities
  • Perform all work according to OSHA and H&K Safety policies
  • Prepare thorough site analysis to determine allowable density and layout constraints based on municipal land use ordinances and site‑specific features
  • Prepare horizontal and vertical alignment of street layouts and profiles
  • Prepare detailed grading plans
  • Prepare thorough stormwater management designs based on municipal land use ordinances and/or State best management practices/regulations
  • Prepare thorough water supply and sewage facilities designs
  • Prepare erosion and sedimentation control / NPDES plans and post‑construction stormwater management designs per State best management practices/regulations
  • Prepare utility designs and coordinate utilities for various land development projects
  • Manage sub‑consultants related to geotechnical, wetlands, traffic, etc.
  • Travel to field, project, township, etc. meetings to communicate design aspects with Project Managers, Engineers, township officials, and clients (company fleet vehicle may be provided)
  • Write comprehensive and detailed narratives and various forms of correspondence
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year college or university or one year of related experience and/or training (equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered)
  • Ability to read blueprints and job‑related documents
  • Strong knowledge of stormwater, erosion, and sediment control
  • Strong knowledge of water and sewer design principles
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to interpret and apply municipal land use ordinances
  • Basic computer skills including MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Experience with specific programs such as AutoCAD 2017 (or later), AutoCAD Civil 3D 2017 or newer, Hydraflow
  • Driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Ability to fit test and utilize appropriate PPE as needed
  • Ability to meet physical requirements (movement, lifting, as relevant to job)
Preferred Skills, Education, and Experience
  • 2 years of relevant experience and/or training
  • Experience using VTPSUHM
  • OSHA or other relevant safety certifications
Physical Demands
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, feel
  • Regularly required to talk and hear
  • Vision abilities include close, distance, color, ability to adjust focus
Work Environment
  • Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions
  • Noise level is usually moderate
