Job Title
Technical Support Specialist
Primary ObjectiveProvide technical support related to the development, implementation and continuous improvement of products that safely and cost effectively meet requirements for quality and delivery, with a focus on melt shop (AOD/EAF/bottom pouring) operations.
PositionReports To:
Technical Manager - Bridgeville
ResponsibilitiesCompliance with quality and safety systems and procedures. Review and disposition heats produced in the air melt shop. Improve melt shop practices with regards to product/process improvement. Internal interface to management and functional groups across Universal Stainless plant locations. Perform statistical analysis and correlate process and product data. Support non-conformance disposition, root cause analysis and corrective action implementation. Lead and support continuous improvement efforts.
Review customer claims and issue technical reports. Provide support during customer and regulatory audits. No supervisory responsibilities.
Ability to communicate well with both technical and non-technical personnel. Strong organizational skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Problem solving techniques (Lean, Six Sigma, 8D, etc.). Strong analytical and statistical analysis skills. Strong computer skills. SEM/EDS operation preferred.
EducationMinimum 4-year degree in Metallurgy or Materials Science; graduate degree with specific research or practical focus on steelmaking is desirable. Minimum 5 year's experience as a process metallurgist within a melt shop environment.
Preferred Experience3 years minimum experience in ferrous metallurgy of Aerospace materials. 3 years minimum experience in primary melting and remelting processing. Preferred experience with SEM/EDS including automated feature analysis (AFA).

Security Level:US Citizen or US Person meeting ITAR requirements. Sponsorship of visa will be considered for strong candidates. Access to confidential business information.
