Job Description

Responsibilities- Operates, monitors, maintains, and responds to alarms of building utility systems including water chillers, cooling towers, condenser water, high purity water treatment, clean steam, building steam and condensate, compressed air and vacuum systems.
- Maintains logs and documentation in a cGMP compliant fashion.
- Performs Stationary Engineer maintenance on equipment or facility as per skills and quality standards.
- Shares work assignments within the Utilities Technician work group with no inherent limits.
- Performs maintenance activities across job groupings where skills are common.
- Assumes responsibility for maintaining significant business systems such as CMMS data, planning, procurement and scheduling.
- Manages work assignments, buildings and equipment, not exclusive to any craft.
- Maintains proper pressures and temperatures of heating and cooling equipment, and appropriate oil, glycol, cooling water parameters.
- Chemically cleans heat exchangers and circulating systems.
- Operates distilled water, deionized water, reverse osmosis, water softener, water pretreatment, and reheat systems.
- Regenerates, acid cleans, changes resin, disinfects systems as necessary.
- Monitors capacity, adequacy of utility services, and quality.
- Adheres to cGMP requirements.
- Ensures operation of high purity water systems to meet cGMP standards.
- Verifies instrument calibration and records.
- Conducts daily tours of equipment and reports instrumentation issues.
- Maintains operating records and shift‑to‑shift communications.
- Works with supervisory, engineering and customer personnel to assure proper maintenance.
- Prepares equipment for modifications, tie‑ins, and safe isolation procedures.
- Performs routine testing and chemical treatment of water systems.
- Performs preventive and corrective maintenance and emergency repairs.
- Maintains housekeeping conditions in mechanical rooms.
- Operates two‑way radio communications for emergency dispatch.
- Operates computer workstations for monitoring equipment status.
- Provides guidance to general workers and maintenance personnel.
- Completes training and participates in safety initiatives.
- Assists in labor and material estimates, scheduling and prioritization of work orders.
- Recommends spare parts and tools.
- Consults with supervision on problem resolution.
- Writes, executes, and completes safety permits.
- Compressors, pumps, electric generators, package boilers, distilled water stills, water cooling towers, deionized water units, reverse osmosis units, water softeners, clean steam generators, condensate equipment, vacuum pumps, heating equipment, water chillers, chemical treatment and testing equipment, computer‑aided control systems, catalytic oxidizers, and all other equipment necessary for the operation of building utility systems.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED).
- State Stationary Engineer Seal or equivalent certification.
- Graduation from a recognized/accredited trade school, community college, or equivalent program with at least six months full‑time emphasis in industrial power plant and refrigeration equipment operations.
- Verified Military training equivalent to a recognized/accredited trade school program.
- Desirable:
Courses in high purity water, cooling towers, water treatment, reverse osmosis, steam utilization.
- Three years recent (within last 7 years) full‑time experience operating industrial power plant equipment and controls (e.g., chillers, cooling towers, air compressors, water treatment equipment) – 6,000 hours. Basic understanding of chemical and water treatment and computer use required.
- Or three years recent full‑time military experience operating power plant equipment and controls.
- Or held the position of Stationary Engineer at our company, West Point location, within the last seven years.
- Desirable:
Recent experience operating centrifugal chillers >600 tons, air compressors and desiccant dryers >250 cfm, high purity WFI/USP water equipment, emergency/building electrical generators, hazardous energy control…
