Job Description

In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on our manufacturing operations. You will work with cross-functional teams both at the site and across the larger business organization to identify areas for improvement, implement changes, and optimize production processes. Your expertise will help drive efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product quality.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze metallurgical and metal forming processes (rolling, forging, heat treatment) using statistical tools to identify variability, and increase yield.
  • Collect and analyze production and quality data (SPC, control charts, Pareto analysis) to drive process optimization and reduce scrap and rework.
  • Lead root cause investigations on defects related to metallurgy (e.g., cracking, inclusions, grain structure) and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Partner with operations, maintenance, and quality teams to resolve equipment and process issues impacting throughput, product quality, and consistency.
  • Develop and maintain data dashboards, and trend analyses to monitor KPIs such as yield, downtime, and defect rates.
  • Provide metallurgical expertise to troubleshoot issues tied to material processing, heat treatment cycles, and forming operations.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction, process stability, and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards specific to metals manufacturing and processing environments.
Qualifications
  • Education:

Bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience:

3+ years in metals manufacturing (e.g., steel, titanium, forging, rolling, or heat treatment operations).
  • Strong understanding of physical metallurgy including microstructure-property relationships, and thermal/mechanical processing.
  • Proven ability to gather, analyze, and interpret production data using Excel (advanced formulas, pivot tables), control charts, and statistical tools (Minitab or similar).
  • Experience conducting root cause analysis on metallurgical defects and process inefficiencies using structured methodologies.
  • Demonstrated success improving yield, reducing scrap, and stabilizing processes through data-driven decisions.
  • Ability to manage and execute process improvement projects from data collection through implementation and validation.
We Value
  • Experience with metal forming operations such as hot/cold rolling, forging, extrusion, and associated process controls.
  • Familiarity with heat treatment processes (annealing, quenching) and their impact on material properties.
  • Hands‑on knowledge of machining processes (CNC, milling, turning) and downstream effects on metallurgical quality.
  • Certification or application of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma (DMAIC), or Statistical Process Control in a metal environment.
  • Experience working with production databases, MES systems, or historian tools to extract and analyze process data.
  • Strong technical communication skills, with the ability to present data insights through charts, reports, and visual dashboards.
  • Self‑driven continuous improvement mindset with the ability to identify trends in data and translate them into actionable process changes.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across operations, engineering, and leadership to drive measurable business impact.
