The Shawville Generating Station is a major power facility with a capacity of 626 MW. The Engineering Technician at the Shawville Generating Station plays a key role in maintaining safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations by directly calibrating, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing instrumentation, control systems, and electrical equipment. This position supports and provides technical assistance for CEMS, PLC, DCS, SCADA, boiler, steam turbine, and power distribution systems through preventive and corrective maintenance while working closely with the station IC&E Technicians, Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering to ensure compliance, improve reliability, minimize downtime, and optimize plant performance.
Occasional travel to the Warren and Blossburg satellite stations is required to provide technical and maintenance support as needed.
Your scope of responsibility as the Shawville Engineering Technician includes the following primary functions:
- Provide technical support for the CEMS, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), PLCs, instrumentation, and control systems by assisting the station IC&E Technicians with troubleshooting, coordinating with OEMs and vendors, and supporting software upgrades and system maintenance.
- Maintain engineering drawings, procedures, technical records, equipment files, and configuration documentation to support accurate plant documentation, configuration control, and regulatory compliance.
- Directly ensure proper calibration, testing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and installation of plant instrumentation and control systems, including control valves, transmitters, analyzers, motors, variable speed drives, fan dampers, and associated field devices.
- Coordinate and provide oversight of corrective, preventive, predictive, and emergency maintenance on plant electrical equipment, including 13.8 kV and 4160-volt switch gear, motor control centers, motors, transformers, batteries, chargers, inverters, and main generator excitation systems.
- Assist in troubleshooting operational, electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, and control system issues in coordination with the station IC&E Technicians Operations, Maintenance, Plant Engineering, OEMs, and technical specialists.
- Directly ensure proper calibration, maintaining, and troubleshooting boiler, steam turbine, and associated control systems, including combustion controls, burner management systems, turbine controls, feedwater controls, and condition monitoring equipment.
- Support plant testing, system modifications, outages, and capital projects by installing equipment, verifying control functionality, and coordinating activities with the station IC&E Technicians, Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, contractors, and vendors.
- Monitor equipment performance, analyze operational data, and recommend control system and reliability improvements to enhance plant efficiency, availability, and equipment life.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, calibration documentation, plant drawings, work orders, equipment databases, and vendor information while ensuring shop tools and test equipment remain calibrated and ready for use.
- Follow all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements by identifying hazards, implementing corrective actions, and properly handling hazardous materials and regulated waste.
- Support the Warren and Blossburg satellite stations as needed by providing technical assistance, troubleshooting, maintenance, and other operational support, with occasional travel to these locations.
- Perform other duties, special projects, and technical assignments as required to support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations.
