JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY:

The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the Engineering Department in support of new product introductions, manufacturing process improvements, cost reduction initiatives, and quality enhancements. This role provides strategic direction, technical oversight, and personnel development to ensure engineering deliverables align with business objectives. The Engineering Manager works cross-functionally to support product development, tool design, process engineering, and capital project execution.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead the New Product Introduction (NPI) process including customer specification review, manufacturability assessments, and readiness for production.

Assign, supervise, coach, and evaluate engineering staff to build a high-performing team.

Set goals and expectations for direct reports and conduct regular performance evaluations.

Provide ongoing feedback, coaching, and professional development opportunities for engineering team members.

Oversee tool design reviews, visual aids, process routings, and gaging development.

Approve or reject engineering change requests and manage engineering documentation.

Partner with manufacturing, quality, and process engineering teams to resolve technical issues.

Manage and prioritize capital project proposals and equipment installations.

Develop and track performance metrics including NPI timelines, engineering change backlog, and improvement targets.

Contribute to the Annual Operating Plan and lead efforts related to cost savings and continuous improvement.

Ensure adherence to industry standards, company policies, and safety regulations.

Participate in problem-solving initiatives and provide technical leadership for complex challenges.
10% / occasional travel to other manufacturing or supplier sites may be required

Other duties as assigned by senior leadership.

SPECIFIC

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Timely and successful execution of New Product Introductions (NPI)
Reduction in engineering change backlog

On-time completion of capital projects

Achievement of annual cost savings and productivity goals

Compliance with safety and environmental standards

Employee development and engagement (training completion, growth opportunities)
Completion and quality of performance reviews for engineering staff

Implementation rate and effectiveness of process improvements

First-pass yield, scrap rate, and rework reductionSKILLS EXECUTED:

Strong technical background with broad manufacturing and process engineering experience

Leadership and coaching skills with the ability to develop talent

Effective communicator and collaborator across cross-functional teams

Strategic thinker with a continuous improvement mindset

Proficient in project management tools and methods

Skilled in engineering software (CAD, Minitab) and Microsoft Office Suite Knowledge of powdered metal and/or injection molding processes preferred

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Design Engineering, or equivalent experience

Minimum 10 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment, including leadership of engineering teams

Experience in powdered metal and/or injection molding preferred

Familiarity with APQP, PPAP, and related quality systems desirable PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Frequent walking, standing, and sitting in both office and manufacturing environments.

Occasionally lift and move materials or equipment up to 50 pounds.

Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Visual acuity required for inspections and documentation review.

Occasional bending, squatting, reaching, and twisting may be required.

Non-standard/off-shift hours may be necessary for project support.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

Comply with all company safety policies and procedures.

Participate in safety training, risk assessments, and hazard identification.

Utilize PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and other gear as needed.

Report unsafe conditions or practices promptly.

Promote a safe and clean working environment.
