Cost Accountant

Location: Oakmont

Description We are looking for a meticulous Cost Accountant to join our team in Oakmont, Pennsylvania. This long-term contract position is an excellent opportunity for a skilled and detail-oriented individual to take charge of job costing, financial analysis, and cost controls within restoration projects. The role focuses on driving accuracy in project profitability reports, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and supporting informed financial decisions.

Responsibilities:

- Monitor and reconcile job costs, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor expenses, to ensure accuracy across multiple restoration projects.

- Collaborate with project managers to update budgets and ensure timely cost entries for ongoing work.

- Prepare detailed financial reports, including job cost summaries, margin analyses, and variance explanations for leadership review.

- Identify cost overruns and risks by analyzing budget versus actual performance metrics.

- Support month-end close processes through accruals, journal entries, and reconciliations.

- Coordinate with billing teams to align financial data with insurance requirements and documentation standards.

- Ensure compliance with internal controls, cost allocation policies, and industry regulations.

- Analyze trends in operational efficiency, including labor utilization and material usage.

- Contribute to process improvements and system upgrades related to cost accounting and restoration software tools.

- Assist in preparing documentation for insurance audits and carrier reviews. Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

- At least 2 years of experience in cost accounting, construction accounting, or job-cost-focused roles; experience in the restoration industry is preferred.

- Strong proficiency in accounting software such as Quick Books, Sage, Foundation, or Acumatica, along with advanced Excel skills.

- Comprehensive knowledge of job costing principles and project financials.

- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to collaborate effectively with operations teams.

- Familiarity with restoration platforms like Xactimate, Encircle, or similar software is a plus.

- Understanding of insurance-based billing practices, including time-and-materials documentation and carrier compliance.

- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
