Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Vice President of Finance & Support Services to lead our financial operations and support functions with energy and precision. As a member of the senior management team, this role is directly responsible for developing and implementing strategies in Financial Stewardship, Risk Management and Human Resources and to oversee the Information Technology functions. Additionally, this position manages all aspects of the Finance & Support Services department including accounting, internal and grant-related financial reporting and legal compliance, budgeting, audit, forecasting and analysis, tax and treasury operations and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve organization assets and report accurate financial results.
EssentialFunctions
- Serve as a key member of the Senior Management Team, providing vision, strategic leadership, and team-building qualities to the team.
- Assist the CEO and Senior Management Team in developing, promoting and operationalizing the long-range plans and goals of the organization.
- Responsibilities include managing, maintaining and analyzing fiscal records for United Way of the Capital Region and United Way Foundation of the Capital Region including the application of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures required in the issuance of reports, the maintenance of accounting records, and in the compilation and analysis of campaign and donor data.
- Attend meetings and professional seminars which will increase professional skills and abilities and assist the Finance & Support Services Department to fulfill its mission and workplan.
- Develop and evaluate short and long-term strategic financial objectives for the organization, ensuring that they are aligned with overall strategy and mission.
- Oversee accounting and finance staff and related activities to ensure effective and efficient processes for all financial transactions which operate within established internal controls, including but not limited to accounts receivable, accounts payable, and allocation and designation payments to funded agencies.
- Lead the operating budget and financial forecasting processes, as well as institute and maintain other planning and control procedures.
- Review applicable compensation surveys/benchmarks and lead the salary and merit budgeting processes.
- Interpret statistical and accounting information to assess operating results in terms of performance against budget, cash flow projections, long term sustainability, and the operating effectiveness of the organization.
- Monitor and ensure liquidity to meet operational cash flow needs and manage investments of excess cash reserves.
- Staff and maintain relations with Chairs and members of the Finance & Audit and Investment Committees.
- Provide timely and accurate analyses and financial reporting in order to ensure the highest level of financial oversight by the Executive Committee and Board members.
- Manage the financial complexity of both unrestricted and restricted (designated) revenue streams and fund accounting.
- Collaborate with program and fundraising staff to prepare grant applications and create budgets and reports. Understands requirements of governmental grants including reporting, federal and state contracting processes, and regulations, manages grants effectively and ensures that the organization complies with requirements, and successfully completes government audits. Meet with potential donors/funders on an “as needed” basis to address financial questions raised by these stakeholders.
- Plan and oversee the completion of the annual independent audit.
- Ensure all assets (notably cash, building, investments) are adequately protected, including strong record-keeping.
- Ensure adequate maintenance, insurance and risk management for facility.
- Select, monitor, and annually review insurance plans to ensure adequate coverages.
