General FunctionThe Optometric Technician creates exceptional value by delivering the Lens Crafters Experience. They ensure all patients receive the highest quality optometric care and help the store achieve key performance indicators through flawless execution of patient interactions during and after the exam process, seamlessly linking the doctor and retail functions.
Major Duties and Responsibilities- Display a professional image and greet patients promptly with a smile.
- Answer the telephone in a friendly and courteous manner.
- Assist the optometrist in eye examinations, including obtaining medical history, preparing patients, asking open‑ended questions, performing tests, and aiding accurate diagnosis within an appropriate timeframe.
- Review prescriptions and patient information carefully, identify special needs, and consult with Optician, Managing Doctor, or Retail Management when necessary.
- Show patience and courtesy to indecisive or difficult customers/patients.
- Accurately perform work despite time pressure and patient volume.
- Address unsatisfied patients promptly for effective resolution.
- Demonstrate knowledge of appointment book/scheduling procedures and computer operation.
- Handle and file all patient records in an organized manner in compliance with HIPAA.
- Support retention and cultivation of exams by making NEE calls, 24‑hour confirmation calls, and no‑show callbacks.
- Place contact lens trial orders, ensure no expired contacts, and maintain the contact lens room neatly.
- Use the CIAO system to input patient data, insurance information, and eye‑care services, entering prescription information accurately.
- Maintain a safe working environment for all associates, customers, and patients.
- Support compliance of visual merchandising in exam lanes, assessment rooms, and contact lens area.
- Adapt to various examination scenarios and be personable with patients and staff.
- Conduct all pre‑examination testing accurately, explaining measurements and answering patient questions.
- Apply clinical and product knowledge to coach patients on contact‑lens care and handling.
- Maintain and disinfect equipment; provide clinical support to the optometrist as needed.
- Monitor and maintain inventory of supplies and contact lenses in exam rooms.
- Support retail as capacity and patient demand allow.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Minimum of one year strong customer service experience (internal or external).
- Leadership skills.
- Strong communication and listening skills.
- Problem‑solving ability.
- Organization skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to assess priorities and address multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to work autonomously.
- Knowledge of office environment.
- Strong basic math skills.
- Experience in retail and/or optical.
- Experience in healthcare.
Pay Range:
-28.16
