Job Summary

Job Details:
Surgical Tech position – Full‑Time Day shift, 40 hours per week. With a commitment to patient- and family‑centered care, the Certified Surgical Technician functions as a member of the intraoperative healthcare team. The Technician is responsible for the creation and maintenance of the sterile field, accurately anticipates surgeon needs by applying comprehensive knowledge of operative procedures, equipment, anatomy, and surgeons' preferences, and works closely with perioperative team members during preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases.

The Technician also supports decontamination and sterile supply areas, maintains courteous and professional interactions with patients and staff, and is required to precept.

Key Responsibilities
  • Recognize patients, their families, or designated care partners, and provide safe, compassionate, and coordinated care respecting patients' personal preferences, priorities, needs, and cultural beliefs and values.
  • Communicate with and support the interprofessional team, patients, families, and designated care partners.
  • Inspect the operating room for cleanliness; secure, set up, and prepare OR equipment, instruments, and supplies required for surgical procedures.
  • Participate in team time‑out and act as an active participant and advocate for patient safety and high‑quality care in the perioperative setting.
  • Assist with gowning and gloving of the surgical team including the surgeon.
  • Prepare the sterile field, including draping the patient and maintaining sterile field integrity.
  • Provide a thorough report to relief personnel on the status of the procedure, instruments, materials, and any other pertinent information to ensure a smooth transition of personnel during the surgical procedure.
  • Count all sharps, sponges, and instruments with the circulating nurse prior to, during, and after the surgical procedure; follow the policy on how counts are performed and initiate corrective action when counts are incorrect.
  • Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization.
  • Assist in maintaining supplies and equipment availability to ensure efficient unit operations.
  • Help maintain a safe, neat, and clean environment to facilitate safe and effective patient care in the operating room.
  • Act as the primary preceptor to other surgical team members as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Graduate of a surgical technician training program.
  • Knowledge of delivering respect and collaboration with patients, families, and care partners.
  • Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools, and techniques.
  • Ability to use the language of partnership with patients and families.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, policies, and procedures relevant to function and organization.
  • Knowledge of operating room environment and safety practices.
  • Knowledge of common equipment and devices used in the healthcare industry.
  • Knowledge of surgical assistance techniques and compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, and management methods to maximize operating room efficiency.
  • BLS – Basic Life Support certification.
  • AHA – American Heart Association certification.
  • CST – Certified Surgical Technologist (National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting).
  • TS‑C – Certified Tech in Surgery (National Center for Competency Testing).
Additional Qualifications
  • Physical Demands: lift and carry 40–50 lbs. (e.g., push/pull patients on bed or stretcher, lateral transfers up to 50 lbs of patient’s weight); frequent to continuous standing and walking; patient transporters may walk 8–10 miles per shift; may perform kneeling, bending, squatting, and CPR as required.
