7.50 Hours/Day (8:00 am-3:30 pm) Monday-Friday 185 Days/Year
Minimum Salary: $24.61
Purpose of PositionThe Behavior Support Assistant will assist the support team members (Special Education Consultant, Social Worker or School Psychologist), school-based team, and family in providing supports that promote school attendance. This will be accomplished through strategies outlined by the support team and reinforced by the Behavior Support Assistant.
Knowledge & Skill RequirementsEducation Required: Associate's degree in related field; bachelor's degree or in-progress master's preferred
Knowledge and skills related to counseling conflict resolution, mediation and crisis intervention evidenced by experience.
Optional: Meet a rigorous standard of quality as demonstrated through a State or local assessment OR complete the Credential of Competency for Special Education Paraeducators through the PA Department of Education.
Certification
Required:
Approved crisis management system
Desired Certification: CPR/First Aid/AED
Skills Required: Team player on an educational team and familiarity with the unique student rights and regulations governing special education placement. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Other
Qualifications:
Evidence of successful experience working with a diverse adolescent population. Willingness to provide safe physical support to students posing a safety risk through the use of techniques promoted by Crisis Prevention Institute Non-Violent Crisis Intervention as per IU 13 Policy.
