Job Overview
Medical Assistant at UPMC – GoHealth Urgent Care located in Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
CompensationHourly rate: $17.00 – $23.00 based on experience. Sign‑on bonus: $2,000 for full‑time roles. Additional monthly incentive pay based on performance metrics.
Responsibilities- Assist in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of an urgent care provider.
- Manage check‑in and registration, interview patients, measure vital signs, and record information on patient charts.
- Draw and collect blood samples and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Prepare treatment rooms for examinations.
- Conduct patient registration, secure required paperwork, verify insurance, process co‑pays, and schedule appointments.
- Coordinate provider referrals to specialists.
- Answer patient questions and keep them informed of status.
- Provide patient information to providers and conduct point‑of‑care testing (e.g., flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, HCG).
- Manage supplies and maintain exam rooms, front desk, and reception area.
- Maintain medical records, scan charts into patient files, and complete order sheets for inventory.
- Answer phone calls, collect and sort postal correspondence, and conduct courtesy callbacks for follow‑up.
- Perform opening and closing duties, including cashing out and securing the building.
- Document daily controls and calibration of equipment, maintain QA/QC logs, troubleshoot breakdowns, perform preventive maintenance, and submit repair tickets.
- Perform any additional duties as assigned.
High School Diploma or equivalent AND 1+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant in a Hospital, Primary Care, Emergency Department, or Urgent Care setting.
OR one of the following certifications at the time of hire (or must obtain within 12 months):
- CCMA – Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (NHA)
- CMA – Certified Health Professionals (CHP) or Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA)
- RMA – Registered Medical Assistant (AMT)
- NCMA – National Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT)
- NRCMA – Nationally Registered Medical Assistant (NAHP)
- ARMA – American Registry of Medical Assistants
- Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing, LPN or LVN (state license)
- EMT – Emergency Medical Technician (state or national certification)
- Paramedic (state or national certification)
Required licenses/certifications:
- CPOE certification within 2 weeks of hire if no MA certification is obtained at hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required at the time of hire (American Red Cross or American Heart Association).
Conduct patient registration, secure paperwork, verify insurance, process co‑pays, and schedule appointments.
Coordinate provider referrals, answer patient questions, and inform technical staff of patient flow.
Perform preliminary physical tests for vital signs and, if necessary, escalation to provider.
Maintain supplies, complete order sheets, maintain medical records, and handle daily reception duties.
Perform opening/closing duties, document equipment controls, and maintain QA/QC logs.
Skills & Abilities- Basic medical assistant duties.
- Typing proficiency and basic computer knowledge; proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Detail oriented with sound judgment, teamwork, and goal orientation.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to interact with all persons with fairness, respect, and sensitivity to cultural/social differences.
- Medical, Dental, Vision.
