Gemma Services is seeking a Part-time, Recreation Therapist to join our Residential Treatment Program located in Plymouth Meeting, PA.
The position is a part-time, 20 hour per week position that requires some flexibility and some weekend hours.
Our nonprofit agency provides education, nurturing, and healing for children, teens, and families through evidence-based and individualized services. We offer education programs, mental health services in residential and community settings, foster care and adoption services, and prevention programs.
Residential Treatment provides 24/7 clinical treatment and trauma-focused care for children and youth who have experienced traumas and/or significant mental health concerns. Our goal is to help them heal and learn new skills so they can live successfully in a home and community setting.
Job SummaryThe Recreation Therapist will report to the Supervisor of Adjunctive Therapy, this position has primary responsibility for developing and implementing group therapeutic recreation activities with the children in the residential treatment program. The part time Recreation Therapist will utilize predictive analytics data from Insight Generator to develop activity interventions or leisure opportunities to address the identified needs of the children.
Skill(s):
Proficient reading, writing, and grammar, skills; proficient interpersonal relations and communicative skills; ability to respond to children’s unsafe behaviors in a trauma-informed manner; ability to regulate own emotions and behaviors during frequent stressful situations. Proficient PC skills; knowledge/understanding of applicable laws and regulations, i.e. PA Residential Regulations (3800) and PA Child Protective Services Law; knowledge of Emergency Safety Physical Intervention Procedures.
and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in recreation therapy, therapeutic recreation or a related field required. Related fields include expressive arts therapy or leisure studies. Master’s degree in recreation therapy preferred;
Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist preferred. - Two (2) years of related experience preferred.
Bachelors or better.
