Overview
Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) is a nationally recognized health system recognized for nursing excellence and patient safety. This position monitors video-enabled patients from a central station and provides continuous surveillance and direct observation as needed to support patient safety and care team communications.
Responsibilities- Maintain close observation of video-monitored patients at a central monitoring station or through constant roving on the patient care unit.
- Observe, interpret risky patient behaviors, communicate with the patient are team, and document in the patientlectronic medical record at regular intervals.
- Provide continuous, one-to-one patient observation when required.
- Oversee patient/staff communications to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment.
- Admit patients to the monitoring system, select proper profiles and protocols, verify consent forms, set up equipment, perform quality control, and maintain equipment.
- Observe patients in real time and coordinate with appropriate staff if immediate action is needed.
- Prepare staff contact lists and pre-program phone numbers for direct dial access.
- Maintain records of each patientehavior, response to redirection, and frequency of redirection.
- Support direct patient care tasks as needed under supervision.
- High School Diploma/GED
- 1 year technology-related experience
- Ability to work with multiple interruptions and adapt to changing priorities
- Ability to understand and use basic medical terminology
- BLS - Basic Life Support (AHA) within 30 days
- Successful completion of Technical Partner or Patient Observation Assistant training/orientation
- Successful completion of Crisis Management Course
- Lift and carry 40–50 lbs; pushing/pulling patients on bed or stretcher (requires ~29 lbs push force); lateral transfers up to the patientpos weight
- Frequent to continuous standing/walking; patient transporters may walk 8–10 miles per shift
- Activities may include kneeling, bending, squatting, and performing CPR
