THE POSITION

Join Wernersville State Hospital as a Certified Peer Specialist and empower individuals as they work toward their personal recovery goals. This position gives you the ability to support consumers in finding strengths, identifying barriers, and discovering new possibilities. You will work closely with staff, families, and community partners to promote respect, growth, and self-advocacy. This role offers a meaningful way to encourage healing and provide hope to those who need it most.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The Certified Peer Specialist supports the recovery process by helping consumers identify goals, develop skills, and access needed resources. The role focuses on advocacy, personal growth, and guiding consumers toward increased independence. As a Certified Peer Specialist, you will perform the following duties:

  • Recovery Guidance:
    Lead and teach recovery dialogues using individual conversations and group methods
  • Plan Development:
    Assist individuals in creating Wellness Recovery Action Plans during sessions
  • Assessment Support:
    Help consumers complete peer assessments for Community Support Plans
  • Group Facilitation:
    Facilitate assigned groups and help develop new group programs
  • Skill Building:
    Teach problem solving techniques, support vocational choices, and help individuals overcome fears
  • Community

    Skills:

    Assist individuals in building social skills to support broader recovery goals

Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. This may change based on operational needs.
  • In this role, you will be subject to emergency call-ins.
  • Overtime and travel as operationally necessary
  • Telework:
    You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
Special Requirement
  • You must be in possession of an active certification as a Certified Peer Specialist issued by the Pennsylvania Certification Board (PCB).
Other Requirements

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination .
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
  • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
