THE POSITIONJoin the Torrance State Hospital team as a Social Worker 1 and make a real difference in the lives of patients who need consistent, high-quality care and support. This role is currently assigned to work in our civil program supporting individuals who are generally admitted to TSH based on referrals from community in-patient psychiatric hospitalization. You will work directly with patients, families, community groups, and external agencies to provide the full range of social work services for an assigned caseload of adults in our care.
DESCRIPTIONOF WORK
This role focuses on supporting a patient population through social work services in an in-patient setting. Work involves direct contact with individuals and their families, communication with a variety of external agencies, and consultation with other professional disciplines to ensure each person receives benefits and services in line with treatment plan.
- Clinical Interviews: Conduct interviews with individuals and their families, legal guardians, and external agency representatives to gather and update information
- Assessment Work: Identify and determine each individual's strengths and weaknesses as well as their need and eligibility for social work services
- Care Planning: Participate in interdisciplinary meetings to develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans and individual goal planning
- Case Management: Document progress, confer with other care providers and agencies, and respond to a variety of correspondence on patient care and related circumstances
- Family Communication: Advise families and guardians of treatment progress and encourage their involvement
- Legal Responsibilities: Complete mental health petitions for involuntary commitment, assist patients in legal matters, and testify at hearings

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- A bachelor's or master's degree in social work or social welfare.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Special Requirements:
- All employees in the Department of Corrections must obtain Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) certification within two months of hire and maintain it for the duration of employment in the job.
Other Requirements:

- A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination and a drug screening.
