Automation Engineer II
Insight Global is seeking an Automation Engineer II to support the deployment and adoption of a laboratory experiment execution platform that enables highly automated scientific workflows across research and development laboratories.
This platform serves as the foundation for next-generation laboratory automation by orchestrating experiments across laboratory instruments, scheduling systems, robotics, and informatics platforms to deliver reliable, auditable, end-to-end execution. It is a key component of a broader strategy to build closed-loop laboratories, where experiments can be planned, executed, analyzed, and optimized with a high degree of automation, accelerating scientific discovery and innovation.
This role is part of a large-scale implementation initiative focused on expanding the use of laboratory automation technologies across multiple scientific programs. Working within established architecture standards and engineering best practices, the Automation Engineer will configure, deploy, integrate, and support automation solutions in production laboratory environments.
This is a delivery-focused implementation role rather than a software product development role. The primary objective is to ensure successful deployment, adoption, and ongoing operation of laboratory automation platforms while enabling scientists and laboratory teams to leverage automated workflows effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Configure, deploy, and support laboratory experiment execution platforms across scientific and laboratory automation programs.
- Partner with scientists, engineers, and research teams to understand experimental workflows and translate requirements into automation solutions.
- Integrate laboratory instruments, robotics platforms, schedulers, and third-party software systems using established integration frameworks and APIs.
- Validate end-to-end functionality, including experiment execution, job scheduling, event handling, status monitoring, and instrument communication.
- Configure workflow templates, operator interfaces, and laboratory-specific automation processes using established platform capabilities and implementation standards.
- Support testing, qualification, and deployment activities to ensure successful implementation in laboratory environments.
- Assist with go-live execution, troubleshooting issues, supporting users, and coordinating with engineering teams to resolve platform-related defects.
- Develop reusable implementation patterns, templates, and reference architectures to accelerate future deployments.
- Gather user feedback, identify improvement opportunities, and communicate enhancement requests to product and engineering teams.
