What's Underwriting? Simply put, underwriting separates good insurance businesses from great ones. When McKinsey compared the top performing quintile of insurance companies to the bottom in terms of profitability, they discovered there's a 2% - 4% difference in expenses and a 28% difference in loss ratio. Loss ratio is the difference between premium insurers take in compared to claims dollars they pay out.

Underwriters select risks and determine the premium that customers pay. This practice has the biggest impact on insurer profitability, which is why Underwriters often rise to the top echelon of insurance company leadership. Why Affinity Insurance Services, Inc.? Affinity is a leading provider of specialty insurance solutions with decades of experience in the design, administration, marketing, underwriting, broking, and delivery of customized programs to a variety of markets.

Affinity's 1,400 colleagues across 15 offices place more than $4.4 billion in premium and premium equivalents on behalf of 34 million customers through 18,000 active broker distributors. We partner with many leading insurance companies as their managing general underwriter. In addition, we provide some non-insurance solutions directly to consumers or through sponsored partnerships with over 300 corporate or association clients.

What is the Affinity Underwriting Internship Program?
