Position: Workers' Compensation Claims Adjuster
Location: Rockwood

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly capable Workers’ Compensation Claims Adjuster to join our Claims team and work from one of our office locations in Rockwood, PA;
Omaha, NE;
Richmond, VA; or Springfield, MO. The role focuses on adjudicating workers’ compensation indemnity and medical-only claims mainly for the mining industry, with emphasis on federal black lung program claims. The position reports to a manager based in Texas and requires 100% on‑site presence during standard business hours.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Adjudicate indemnity and federal black lung workers’ compensation claims of higher technical complexity under technical direction and within authority limits.
  • Adjudicate medical-only claims reported by the account.
  • Provide laser‑focused customer service to clients, insurants and brokers, developing meaningful, long‑lasting connections.
  • Resolve general but non‑complex issues while understanding broader related matters.
  • Report to claims management, loss control and underwriters on claims trends and developments.
  • Identify loss drivers and claims trends to reduce claims frequency and severity through data analysis and improved claim management.
  • Investigate claims promptly and thoroughly, including interviewing all involved parties.
  • Manage claims in litigation and ensure timely resolution.
  • Create and review reserves per Argo’s reserving policy.
  • Coordinate assignment of expertise resources for case resolution.
  • Prepare reports and file documentation.
  • Apply creative solutions to achieve the best financial outcome.
  • Settle straightforward claims according to authority limits and company procedures.
  • Negotiate cost‑effective solutions within own limits using a range of styles.
  • Prioritize workload, process mail, and complete telephone and written correspondence.
Qualifications / Experience
  • Practical knowledge of workers’ compensation claims and a strong customer service focus.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university required; or four years of general work experience for trainees.
  • For Associate Adjuster or Adjuster candidates: two or more insurance designations or four additional years of related experience may substitute a degree.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience adjudicating indemnity workers’ compensation claims for Adjuster level; one year for Associate Adjuster.
  • No experience required for trainees (unless substituting a degree).
  • Knowledge of IL, IN, KY, NY, PA, and VA jurisdictions is a plus.
  • Must be licensed in KY and NY, or be able to obtain a license within 90 days of hire.
  • Strong business acumen, ability to exercise independent judgment, and focus on execution.
  • Excellent negotiation skills, with trainees receiving training and independent judgment expected for higher levels.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and other business software.
  • Polished written and verbal communication; fluent English required.
  • Desire for continued professional development through continuing education.
