Location: Cheyney

Cheyney University is seeking two part-time Driver positions for 15‑passenger Vans and 15‑passenger Luxury Buses. The successful candidates will have previous safety management experience working in a fast‑paced environment, will be extremely flexible with their schedule (including overtime, weekends and holidays), and will work with the University Fleet Manager to direct the maintenance workflow to ensure the safety, reliability and productivity of the university’s fleet of 15 vehicles, including police cars, luxury buses and other vehicles.

This part‑time position is expected to work 20–25 hours per week.

Responsibilities
  • All prospective employees must be available Monday to Friday with weekend flexibility throughout the university school year August – May, and possibly during summer sessions.
  • Possess good communication skills, be professional and mature, hard‑working, reliable, punctual, respectful, and place safety above all things.
  • All drivers are required to conduct daily pre and post trip vehicle inspections.
  • Ability to walk up and down vehicle stairs, maneuver wheelchairs, elderly and assist handicapped passengers with entering and exiting university vehicles as well as provide safety oversight on university sanctioned trips.
  • Ability to back‑up and turn around a 15‑passenger van.
  • Drivers must have flexibility to work weekends throughout the university school year August – May.
  • Friendly and personable, reliable and honest.
  • Work as a positive and effective team member.
Qualifications
  • Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Awareness of student behaviour.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with college‑age students, elderly, teachers and staff.
  • CDL License with "S" or "P" endorsement preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience as van driver: 1 year (preferred).
  • Proficiency in technology, including apps, online systems and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Attention to detail is a must.
  • Excels within a fast‑paced environment.
Special Requirements
  • Upon conditional offer of employment the individual shall submit a pre‑employment substance‑abuse test that must be negative.
  • Compliance with all federal and agency alcohol and substance‑abuse policies and regulations that apply to safety.
  • Pennsylvania State Police Criminal History Clearance, Child Abuse Clearance, FBI Clearance and National Sex Offender Registry check current within 90 days of hire; and Motor Vehicle Record check.
  • Complete Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse training.
  • Clear speaking voice and the mental and physical ability to perform essential job functions without health restrictions, including the ability to sit for extended periods of time, stand, climb stairs, carry up to twenty pounds unassisted, and assist passengers (including those with restricted mobility) to enter and exit vehicles. Includes unrestricted use of the upper body, finger dexterity, and corrected or uncorrected hearing and vision within normal ranges.
  • Maintains and promotes a positive, professional image ensuring attire is safe, clean and does not detract from positive customer service or working relationships with students, staff, faculty, general public or fellow employees; proper footwear is required.
  • Participation in job‑related training as assigned.
