Driver License Examiner - Lawndale

THE POSITION

The Driver License Examiner position with the Department of Transportation is an excellent chance to build valuable experience in public safety. This role focuses on evaluating driver applicants and protecting public safety through careful testing and identity verification. It supports secure and efficient service at Driver License Centers.

• Conduct driving, skills, and knowledge examinations to ensure applicants understand safe driving practices.
• Examine identity documents and verify authenticity to prevent fraud and confirm eligibility.
• Inspect motor vehicles for proper safety features and determine readiness for testing.
• Provide information on licensing processes, renewals, transfers, and related services.
• Process applications, update records, and issue license products to qualified applicants.
• Follow all policies including REAL s, customer service standards, and fee waiver guidelines.

• Full‑time employment, 80 hours bi‑weekly.
• Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30‑minute lunch.
• Travel and overtime will be required as needed.
• Telework:
  You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary:
  In some cases, the starting salary may be non‑negotiable.

• One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration).
• Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.

• All positions require an active Pennsylvania non‑commercial Class C Driver’s License or equivalent and be at least twenty‑one years of age at the time of application.
• All positions require no suspensions or revocations of a driver’s license during the five‑year period immediately preceding employment.
• All employees hired after February 28 2022 must obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver’s license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.

• Must meet the PA residency requirement.
• Must be able to perform essential job functions.

• Must undergo and pass a Fingerprint and Name‑Based Criminal History Check prior to employment.

• Pennsylvania law (51 Pa. C.S. 7103) provides employment preference for qualified veterans for appointment to many state and local government jobs.
