This position is responsible for overseeing the leaders of DOC staff training and development programs as well as directing the operations of the Training Academy. Work ensures training efforts match agency priorities and uphold high standards for staff preparation. As Director of Training Services, you will perform the following duties:

  • Program Oversight: Determine priorities, develop plans, assign work for, and collaborate continuously with the leaders of state and county correctional, in-service, and specialized training programs
  • Policy Development: Create the agency’s overall annual training plan and report, evaluate institution individual plans and reports, and identify and implement changes needed to ensure compliance with requirements and support operational excellence
  • Academy Operations: Direct Training Academy operations including business management, inmate worker oversight, maintenance, food service, public relations, and other departments
  • Training Management: Oversee the agency’s Trainee Program, On-The-Job Training Program, and Apprenticeship Program; oversee and develop county prison basic training and staff development; and approve or disapprove out-service training requests and monitor results
  • Administrative

    Collaboration:

    Participate in labor/management meetings, contract negotiations, and taskforces related to training and issue resolution; review all extraordinary occurrence and related reports

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework:You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Seven years of experience in the field of corrections that includes four years of professional experience developing and presenting training courses and two years of professional supervisory experience;
    or
  • Five years of experience in the field of corrections that includes two years of professional experience developing and presenting training courses and two years of professional supervisory experience, and a master's degree in psychology, education, criminal justice, or a related field;
    or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes two years of professional supervisory experience developing and presenting training courses in the field of corrections.
Additional Requirements:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
