Manufacturing Manager is responsible for overseeing all manufacturing operations to ensure the safe, timely, and cost-effective production of custom electrical power distribution and control equipment. This role provides strategic and tactical leadership across fabrication, assembly, testing, and final packaging to support on-time delivery and customer satisfaction. As a key member of the plant leadership team, the Manufacturing Manager leads a team of Production Managers, Supervisors, and cross-functional support staff while ensuring alignment with safety, quality, and operational goals.
This role requires a hands‑on leader with experience in high‑mix, low‑volume manufacturing environments and a demonstrated track record of managing change, building teams, and driving process excellence.
- Lead all aspects of manufacturing operations, including scheduling, staffing, workflow, and resource planning.
- Ensure production goals are met or exceeded for output, quality, cost, and on-time delivery.
- Maintain alignment with engineering specifications and project requirements for all products.
- Directly manage Production Managers and Supervisors; indirectly lead a workforce of 60–150 hourly employees.
- Develop workforce plans, training programs, and performance management systems.
- Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.
- Champion a safety‑first culture; ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety standards.
- Conduct safety audits, lead root cause investigations, and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure all production processes follow documented procedures and quality standards.
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance on root cause analysis and corrective actions for non-conformances.
- Drive initiatives to reduce rework, scrap, and quality escapes.
- Implement and sustain Lean Manufacturing principles, including 5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, and waste elimination.
- Lead cross‑functional improvement projects to drive operational efficiency and throughput.
- Work closely with Engineering, Supply Chain, Project Management, and Quality Assurance to resolve production barriers and improve workflow.
- Provide manufacturing feedback on product design and new product introductions (NPI).
- Track and report on KPIs, including productivity, safety, quality, and labor performance.
- Use data to drive decisions and present operational updates to leadership.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- 7+ years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience, preferably in custom‑engineered equipment, electrical systems, or related industries.
- Proven experience managing multi‑department production operations with direct oversight of hourly work forces of 50 or more employees.
- Strong leadership and team development skills, with a track record of building high‑performing teams, developing supervisors, and driving accountability.
- Deep proficiency in Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies, including 5S, Kaizen, and Value Stream Mapping.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, blueprints, job travelers, and production documentation.
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., JobBOSS, Net Suite, IFS) and Microsoft Office tools.
