The Quality Lab Supervisor is a role of trust, integrity and professionalism who drives continuous improvement in all areas of safety as well as tensile testing (TYE). This position is focused on following compliance and corporate guidelines while improving how we deploy testing to ensure repeatability. Safely leads Lab Analyst on a daily basis to ensure all JSA's and other safety guidelines are being followed.
Instruct, as needed, on safe work practices and instruct/train/correct team members on established procedures. Ensure the safe operation of manufacturing equipment in a machine shop environment. Proper documentation, following procedures, systems processes, best practices & training are all vital to the success of the ever‑growing Quality Lab Supervisor position. Following ASTM, Aluminum Association testing guidelines. Interpreting customers' drawings, identify predominant area for tensile testing, computer entries, confide with management to understand customer requirements and/or standards.
Education / Experience
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 3-5 years of Quality experience in a Manufacturing facility.
- Fluency in English is mandatory.
- Must have good customer relation skills and the ability to communicate on all levels.
- Manufacturing experience: exposure to aluminum extrusion industry is a plus.
- Competence with Microsoft office tools is desired.
- Good mechanical aptitude to safely and efficiently operate equipment including testing equipment, band saw, milling machines, lathe, drill presses, hand tools, etc.
- Good mathematical written skills to accurately analyze and report all types of test results.
- Must be highly motivated and able to work responsibly without direct supervision in a team environment.
- Good communication skills to interact with other analysts.
- Provide safe leadership to the Lab Analyst Crew in all facets of Lab activity.
- Safety awareness and ability to follow JSA's.
- ISO/IATF knowledge.
- Complete ENA TYE level 1 training with test; option to complete Level 2 training with test.
- Computer knowledge – data review & entry, understand function of software ORACLE, QTS, CIMEX, SCS, LAPS.
- Instruct/train, as needed, on safe work practices and train/correct Team Members on established procedures.
- Processing of test failures per operating procedures, ASTM guidelines.
- Processing manual fit‑back in accordance with corporate guidelines.
- Approving or rejecting test graphs & quarantine tests in accordance with corporate guidelines.
- Follow all compliance & corporate guidelines, ability to flag compliance issues.
- Attention to details is critical.
- Ability to communicate with all levels of management including corporate level.
- Determine and report the chemical analysis of raw materials, work in process, and finished goods via optical emissions spectroscopy, including sample preparation.
- Determine and report the mechanical properties of finished goods in accordance with the prescribed company, federal, military and/or other specifications required by the customer, including sample preparation.
- Understand & use tensile test machines, ability to read testing graphs.
- Perform daily calibration checks on equipment necessary to perform the above testing and make necessary adjustments as required and permitted.
- Daily verification test (DVT) on ZWICK testing robots.
- Perform all tasks in a safe manner, adhering to all company, department and EHS policies and procedures.
- Perform other metallurgical inspection functions as required by company and/or customer requirements (e.g. conductivity testing, bend testing, grain size analysis).
- Operate hardness equipment desktop and hand‑held such as Barcol's, Websters – understand hardness scales Brinell, RE, RH.
- Prioritize the workflow through the lab – red boards, rush orders, FIFO logic.
