Weekend Shift Sanitation Technician

The Sanitation Technician is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and sanitary condition of all production, packaging, and facility areas to maintain food safety and product quality standards. This role performs cleaning and sanitization of equipment, production lines, and facility spaces in accordance with the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS), SQF, GMP, and regulatory requirements. The position supports a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement across all sanitation and housekeeping activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform cleaning and sanitization of production equipment, packaging machinery, and facility areas as outlined in the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS).
  • Ensure compliance with all SQF, GMP, and food safety standards.
  • Operate sanitation and janitorial equipment including power washers, foamers, floor scrubbers, vacuum cleaners, compactors, and lifts.
  • Disassemble and reassemble processing and packaging equipment to perform thorough cleaning and inspection.
  • Mix, handle, and apply chemical cleaning agents according to manufacturer instructions and plant procedures.
  • Read and follow Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical handling procedures.
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards throughout production, warehouse, office, breakroom, and restroom areas.
  • Execute allergen control procedures to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Follow all Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), PPE, and workplace safety requirements.
  • Assist with waste removal, recycling, spill containment, and environmental compliance efforts.
  • Support pest control initiatives by identifying and reporting pest activity.
  • Maintain accurate sanitation, chemical usage, and cleaning verification records.
  • Participate in safety, food safety, sanitation, and continuous improvement programs.
  • Support special cleaning projects and emergency sanitation needs as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support safe and efficient plant operations.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in food manufacturing, industrial cleaning, janitorial, or sanitation environments preferred.
  • Familiarity with SQF, HACCP, GMPs, and food safety programs preferred.
  • Experience working with sanitation equipment, cleaning chemicals, and equipment disassembly is a plus.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and climb for extended periods.
  • Ability to regularly lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Comfortable working in wet, humid, and varying temperature environments.
  • Ability to work at heights above 15 feet when required.
  • Must be able to work weekends and maintain consistent attendance.
