Basic Job FunctionsResponsible for the day-to-day supervision of all mechanical staff. Controls the PM program for the packaging and manufacturing equipment. Reviews production schedule and ensures task/line assignments are properly supported. Interacts with Management, Engineering, and all packaging personnel to provide and receive feedback of operations that require improvement/repair. Able to perform mechanical set‑ups and maintenance tasks on all packaging lines. Is knowledgeable on each component of a packaging line and the correct setup for interaction and connection between them for maximum efficiency.
EssentialFunctions Of The Job
- Provide direction, leadership, training, counseling and feedback to staff.
- Develop and maintain a detailed training program.
- Participate in the coordination and execution of packaging equipment validations, IQs and OQs.
- Initiate and maintain the preventive maintenance program, ensuring that maintenance is effective, successful and documented properly.
- Coordinate set‑ups and assignments in compliance with the weekly and monthly packaging schedule.
- Ensure that set‑up sheets are developed and maintained as per current procedures.
- Optimize safety, quality, output and efficiency of all packaging lines.
- Participate in teams and attend group meetings as needed to set and meet goals.
- Execute all requirements of the “Mechanic A” position.
- Set up full line configurations of multiple pieces of equipment independently.
- Meet with Scheduling personnel to review the weekly production schedule and advise of possible improvements or delays.
- Supervise mechanical personnel and assist in troubleshooting and training.
- Generate Purchase Requisition s for materials and parts needed.
- Interact with Management to assist in new project quotation generation by providing input on equipment choices, potential capital purchases or improvements and estimated output.
- Evaluate component problems and provide feedback and samples to Customer Service to relay to the customer.
- Review and advise on concerns about new customer projects, specifications, or requirements to management.
- Participate in the interviewing and selection of departmental employees.
- Work with Engineering to improve efficiencies through adjustments to the factory floor’s layout or recommended equipment improvements on the Packaging Floor.
- Assist Packaging Manager, Supervisor and QA in investigating and documenting all non‑conformances in the Nonconformance Information Report systems.
- Coordinate that all Equipment Cleaning Reports (ECR) are forwarded to the Sanitizers and are accurately documented in compliance with cGMPs.
- Carry out other activities instructed by the Packaging Manager or upper management to ensure an efficient operation.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Computer literate.
- Technical school training and at least 5 years of experience, or equivalent, in a manufacturing packaging environment.
- Working knowledge of machinery and packaging processes.
- Works effectively in high‑pressure situations.
- Strong personal interaction skills.
- Maintains a professional appearance.
- Possesses strength sufficient to lift, push, and palletize boxes of finished product as needed.
- Ability to stand on concrete floors for the full shift period.
- Ability to hear speech and/or alarms through plant noise.
- Possesses peripheral vision.
- Can recognize colors and shades of colors.
- Stamina to walk quickly for the full shift period.
- Ability to climb step ladders and maintain balance.
Minimal – 2%
Education and/or ExperienceMust have a high school diploma or GED, preferably a college degree. Must have 5+ years of experience or equivalent in a manufacturing packaging environment. Technical school training is preferred.
