The Production Laborer is an entry-level manufacturing position responsible for supporting operations throughout the facility. This position serves as a developmental role designed to build the skills necessary for advancement into specialized production and operator positions. Employees in this role will receive cross-training in multiple operational areas including melt, furnace support, heat make-up, ladle operations, belt/pan operations, packaging, shipping, and general plant support.
The employee will be assigned to areas based on production needs, staffing requirements, and business priorities while maintaining safe, efficient, and quality-focused operations.
- Follow all plant safety rules, wear required PPE and actively promote a safe work environment.
- Maintain housekeeping standards and keep work areas clean and organized.
- Report accidents, near misses, equipment damage, and safety concerns immediately.
- Operate forklifts, pendant cranes, loaders, bobcats, scales, and other production equipment after training and authorization.
- Load, unload, transport, package, identify, and stage materials throughout the facility.
- Read and follow work orders, sales orders, heat make-up sheets, quality requirements, and operating instructions.
- Assist furnace operations including charging materials, back charging, refractory maintenance, sampling, and heat preparation.
- Assist with ladle preparation, tundish building, pouring operations, refractory inspection, and related production activities.
- Build and verify material charges according to heat make-up instructions and production requirements.
- Operate and maintain belt, pan, mold, and related production systems used in alloy and ingot production.
- Replace molds no longer producing quality ingots, worn links and rollers.
- Maintain the mold wash in tank at a consistent baume as required by alloy.
- Perform visual inspections and quality checks to ensure products meet customer specifications.
- Collect, weigh, identify, label, package, and document finished products and by-products.
- Support truck loading and unloading activities and general material handling throughout the plant.
- Perform other duties and special assignments as required according to PCC Code of Conduct & SOX guidelines.
- Capable of safely operating overhead cranes, fork trucks, backhoe, KT Grant, and various hand tools.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in manufacturing, foundry, melt shop, steel, metals, or heavy industrial environment strongly preferred.
- Ability to safely operate industrial equipment and tools after training.
- Basic math and computer skills.
- Strong attention to detail, quality, and safety.
- Ability to work varying shifts, overtime, weekends, and 12-hour schedules as needed.
- Ability to adapt to changing work assignments and priorities.
- Ability to operate a weight scale to weigh pans pre/post production runs to calculate final weights.
Must be able to frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist, push, pull, reach overhead, climb, and perform repetitive hand movements. Must be able to regularly lift and carry up to 35 pounds. Position requires the use of PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hats, gloves, safety footwear, and flame-resistant clothing where required.
Work EnvironmentWork is performed primarily in a heavy industrial manufacturing and melt shop environment with exposure to heat, dust, noise, vibration, moving equipment, uneven surfaces, and varying temperatures.

Employees are expected to become proficient in multiple operational areas and may be reassigned between departments based on business needs.
