CNC Machinist
The Machine Operator on 3rd shift ensures that machining operations run efficiently, safely, and in line with production targets. This role involves operating and monitoring high-speed equipment, performing setups and adjustments, and maintaining quality standards in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities:
- Operate machinery in accordance with operating instructions to support efficient and consistent production.
- Perform machine setups, including calibration and cleaning, to start and complete production cycles accurately.
- Control and adjust machine settings, such as speed and feed, to meet quality, safety, and efficiency standards.
- Feed raw materials or parts into semi-automated machines and maintain a continuous supply to avoid production interruptions.
- Inspect parts using precision measuring tools to ensure they meet required specifications and quality standards.
- Test machine operations periodically to confirm smooth running and identify issues early.
- Maintain accurate activity logs and report daily production volumes, quality results, and any deviations.
- Troubleshoot issues that arise during machine operation and perform basic repairs and maintenance as needed.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards to support a safe working environment.
- Consistently follow all safety guidelines and company regulations, including proper use of protective gear.
- Communicate machine malfunctions, irregularities, or quality concerns promptly to the appropriate supervisor.
- Monitor and manage inventory of materials and parts required for machine operation.
- Collaborate with team members to optimize production processes and support overall workflow.
- Participate in ongoing training and development to stay current with machine technologies and operating techniques.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing production efficiency and reducing waste.
- Apply working knowledge of diverse high-speed machinery and measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and tape measures.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and manuals to set up and operate machines correctly.
- Monitor changeovers and ensure they are completed accurately and efficiently.
- Follow manufacturer instructions for the operation and care of machines.
- Stand for extended periods, perform repetitive tasks, and safely move equipment or materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
Essential
Skills:
- Proven experience as a machine operator in a manufacturing or production environment.
- At least 1 year of experience working in a machine shop.
- Manufacturing experience with production, assembly, and packaging processes.
- Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately.
- Hands-on experience operating machines such as CNC equipment, press brakes, and other production machinery.
- Ability to monitor machines producing equipment and respond to issues promptly.
- Working knowledge of high-speed machinery and measurement tools, including calipers, micrometers, and tape measures.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and equipment manuals.
- Understanding of production procedures and standard manufacturing practices.
- Consistent adherence to health and safety regulations, including the use of protective gear.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail for quality inspection and troubleshooting.
- Effective teamwork and communication skills to coordinate with colleagues and supervisors.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions accurately.
- Familiarity with control operations and automated equipment.
- Basic computer and mathematical skills for recording data and performing measurements.
- Willingness to undergo on-the-job training and adapt to new processes.
- Flexibility to work shifts, including nights and weekends, if required.
- Physical ability to stand for long hours, perform repetitive tasks, lift heavy items, and work overtime when needed.
- Ability to move equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Preference for candidates with experience in a fabrication machine shop.
