SUMMARY:

The Work Group Lead serves as a working lead who supports the Production Supervisor in executing the daily production plan. This role provides hands‑on leadership to ensure operations run safely, efficiently, and in alignment with quality standards. The Work Group Lead assists in coordinating and training new employees and supports team members when work methods, procedures, or equipment change.

The position’s primary focus areas are Safety, Quality, and Productivity —in that order—while fostering teamwork, continuous improvement, and a positive work environment on the production floor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ability to interpret basic dimension specifications, simple prints and instructions to determine work to be done.
  • Performs manual and repetitive assembly and sub-assembly functions.
  • Ability to follow basic instructions to build a finished product void of defects and meet technical standards.
  • Ability to start prior to the start of the shift to go over the production plan for the day.
  • Assembles material by following technical written or verbal instructions.
  • Operates various equipment as necessary based on production needs.
  • Perform daily inspections to determine the quality of finished product for defects.
  • Cleans machines, tooling, and parts.
  • Ability to train new members in the various machines, procedures, safe work practices and any pertinent items regarding safety, quality and production.
  • Ensure steady productivity occurs throughout each shift.
  • Responsible for maintaining the 5S program to ensure a clean and efficient work area.
  • Identify and rework defective work pieces to comply with quality standards.
  • Ability to observe, obey and enforce safety rules, including wearing required personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to follow escalation matrix (call list) to get assistance from upper management in case of an emergency.
  • Ability to work with supervisors to document situations using reports or investigation procedures
  • Ability to assist the production supervisor and value stream leader in coordinating the daily functions of operations.
  • Completes tasks as directed to manufacturing schedules with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to observe, obey, and enforce policies and procedures.
  • Ability to be flexible to work outside of your normal work hours as needed to support team members. and/or area objectives.
  • Any other similar or associated duties necessary to accomplish job objectives, or as assigned by the immediate supervisor,
QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each ESSENTIAL DUTY satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Education - High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Experience
    -2-4years'manufacturing experience required, preferably in some form of assembly work.
  • Leadership:
    The ability to guide, motivate, and coach team members, provide regular feedback, and support their development.
  • Communication:
    Clearly communicating instructions, expectations, and feedback both verbally and in writing to the team and management. Act as a liaison between the production floor and management.
  • Problem-Solving & Decision-Making:
    The capacity to quickly identify, analyze, and resolve issues (e.g., production delays, equipment malfunctions, quality deviations) and make effective decisions under pressure.
  • Conflict resolution:
    Handling interpersonal issues within the team fairly and effectively and being able to mediate disagreements and foster a positive, collaborative team environment.
  • Delegation & Organizational skills:
    Managing schedules, tasks, and resources efficiently. Ability to assign tasks and responsibilities to the right team members.
