Geotechnical Equipment Fabrication Welder (MIG/TIG/Stick)

Day in the life

From first arc to final pass, you’ll build and refine the structural components that power geotechnical drilling rigs. You’ll lean on MIG as your primary process—switching to TIG or stick when the job calls for it—to meet tight design tolerances and quality targets.

• Fabricate and weld structural steel assemblies per engineering blueprints and weld procedure specifications (WPS).
• Set up welding equipment, dial in parameters, and choose the correct filler wire/rod for the material and joint.
• Read and interpret fabrication drawings and weld symbols to plan high‑quality, code‑compliant welds.
• Perform structural and precision welds on geotechnical drilling equipment components, then inspect for defects and repair when needed.
• Grind, blend, and finish welds to the required specifications.
• Keep welding gear in peak condition through routine maintenance and care.
• Work safely at all times—adhere to hot work protocols and wear all required PPE.

• High school diploma or GED.
• 2+ years of welding experience in a manufacturing setting.
• Strong proficiency in MIG welding; TIG experience is preferred.
• Ability to read weld drawings and interpret standard weld symbols.
• Preferred credentials AWS D1.1 certification
• Background welding chrome‑moly or other high‑strength steels.
• TIG certification.

Plan for 8–10 hours on your feet with exposure to weld fumes, UV light, heat, and sparks. Full PPE is required, including a welding helmet, gloves, and flame‑resistant clothing.
