Overview
The Palmer Museum of Art in the College of Arts and Architecture at Penn State seeks a detail‑ and deadline‑oriented Marketing and Communications Specialist to create, manage, and disseminate creative content across digital, print, and social media platforms. The position is part‑time (24 hours per week) and primarily onsite, with responsibilities that support the museum’s outreach, exhibition promotion, and visitor engagement objectives.
Key Responsibilities- Lead ideation, organization, creation, and implementation of social media and emerging media content relating to programs, exhibitions, and partnerships.
- Strategize engagement marketing to grow the museum’s audience and increase visitor attendance, both virtually and in person.
- Produce multimedia content, marketing materials, and mass‑media communications for print, electronic, and other collateral.
- Review and proofread content, including social media posts, website copy, advertising, articles, brochures, and other communications.
- Attend and document museum programs and events through photo and/or video.
- Assist in overall marketing and communications strategy planning.
- Assist in research and analysis of social media and marketing strategies used in academic, museum, and cultural arts sectors.
- Participate in response and emergency communications to museum audiences.
- Provide general support and backup for the museum’s marketing and communications team.
- Bachelor’s degree in social media, marketing, communications, or a related field, or 2–3years of equivalent experience.
- Proven knowledge of social media management and content creation, including photography, videography, and graphic design.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Project and time‑management abilities.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, web design/upkeep, and social media/e‑mail marketing tools such as Hootsuite and Mailchimp.
- Passion for the arts, education, and museums.
- Evidence of commitment to equitable, inclusive practices in education and outreach.
Part‑time position: 24 hours per week. Salary range: $20–$25 per hour. Background check required for employment.
