Historic Yellow Springs is a living village steeped in a distinguished history, tradition, and folklore that stirs the imagination of those who visit. The village spans 300 years of American history. Today, the village includes 11 buildings and 142 acres. HYS continues to host a wide range of fine art, sculpture and ceramic classes for adults, teens and children, boasts some of the best art shows in the area, contains a beautiful venue for weddings and events and hosts numerous trails for all who visit to enjoy, including passing the Revolutionary War hospital commissioned by then General Washington.

Job Summary

The Communications Coordinator supports Historic Yellow Springs' marketing and communications efforts by helping tell the story of the organization through social media, digital communications, and promotional content. Working under established brand standards and organizational priorities, this part-time position assists with planning and distributing content that highlights programs, events, exhibitions, classes, and daily experiences across the site. The Coordinator helps maintain audience engagement through newsletters, website updates, and social media outreach while documenting the people, places, and stories that make Historic Yellow Springs a vibrant community resource.

Job Functions
  • Social Media Planning & Content Creation
    • Assist in planning, creating, scheduling, and publishing content across social media platforms.
    • Capture and organize photographs, videos, and stories that highlight classes, exhibitions, events, artists, volunteers, and daily life at Historic Yellow Springs.
    • Monitor engagement and assist with responding to comments, messages, and inquiries in accordance with organizational guidelines.
    • Ensure all content reflects established brand standards, messaging, and visual identity.
  • Digital Communications & Audience Engagement
    • Assist with the creation and distribution of email newsletters, e-blasts, and member communications.
    • Update website content, event listings, and program information as needed.
    • Support communication efforts that increase participation, attendance, memberships, and community engagement.
    • Maintain communication records and assist with audience list management.
  • Promotion of Programs, Events & Visitor Experiences
    • Collaborate with staff to promote exhibitions, educational programs, special events, weddings, rentals, retail offerings, and visitor experiences.
    • Attend selected programs and events to gather content and document organizational activities.
    • Identify and share stories that highlight the impact of Historic Yellow Springs, its artists, students, volunteers, and visitors.
    • Help ensure that visitors, members, and community stakeholders receive timely and engaging information about opportunities to connect with the organization.
  • Be an engaged team member to promote personal growth and development of best practices in the department
    • Provide program support for other organizational programs or activities as needed
    • Attend meetings, trainings and key program events as determined by program staff
    • Responds to emails and approval requests in a timely manner
    • Maintain positive interactions in promotion and retention of Yellow Springs operations and activities
    • Actively engage in brainstorming and review exercises

    Education and Experience
    • A high school diploma or GED
    • Proficiency and proven experience with various social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and Substack
    • Proficiency and proven experience with Word Press preferred
    • Experience CRM, Mailchimp, Email, or class registration software preferred
    Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
    • Works primarily indoors in open office environment
    • Works regular hours; some evening and weekend hours are required
    • Occasional physical demands associated with carrying/moving art materials and supplies, installing exhibitions; must be able to climb ladders and lift a maximum of 25 lbs.
    • Individuals must be able to move freely about the work site.
    • Individuals must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
