Job Description and Key Responsibilities

The Senior Director, Hematology Communications & Public Affairs is accountable for shaping and leading the global communications and public affairs strategy for Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine's Hematology portfolio. Reporting to the Vice President, Oncology Communications & Public Affairs, this role serves as the most senior communications counselor to Hematology leadership and is responsible for ensuring clear, consistent, and credible positioning across science, access, policy, and value—supporting both near‑term commercial priorities and long‑term portfolio growth.

As a core member of the Oncology Communications leadership team, and a business partner to commercial and R&D partners, this role drives strategic alignment across global, regional, and market teams. The Senior Director also works closely with Commercial, R&D and Enterprise partners to influence the external environment and strengthen trust with key stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive global communications strategy for the Hematology portfolio, aligned with Innovative Medicine business priorities and enterprise standards.
  • Serve as primary strategic communications advisor to Hematology franchise leadership, providing counsel on external positioning, risk assessment, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Shape the global narrative for Hematology across disease areas, products, pipeline assets, and scientific platforms, ensuring clarity, consistency, and differentiation.
  • Oversee communications strategy for priority launches, major data readouts, lifecycle milestones, and key growth brands, in close partnership with local market leads, Launch Communications and Performance Accelerator teams.
  • Partner with Public Affairs to drive market‑shaping, policy, and advocacy strategies that enable access and improve the operating environment for Hematology.
  • Guide integrated communications planning across media, issues management, scientific congresses, campaigns, and executive visibility.
  • Align with regional and market communications leaders to ensure global strategy is effectively adapted, shaped and executed locally, particularly in Top 10 markets.
  • Anticipate, assess, and manage issues and reputational risks affecting the Hematology portfolio, working in close coordination with Enterprise and regional teams.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with external stakeholders, including media, scientific experts, advocacy organizations, and policy influencers.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing Hematology communications team, fostering collaboration, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute as a senior leader within the Innovative Medicine Communications & Public Affairs organization, elevating standards, capabilities, and impact across therapeutic areas.

Qualifications – External

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Policy, Life Sciences, or a related field preferred
