Organization / Program Description

The Stewards Individual Placement Program places individuals nationwide in projects that build capacity, improve access to natural resources, foster innovative solutions, create service opportunities, and empower leaders.

Position Description

This Ameri Corps Program strengthens economic stability in Uniontown’s Main Street district by advancing downtown revitalization, historic preservation, and small‑business growth through coordinated planning and public–private collaboration.

The Ameri Corps VISTA member will build capacity and develop sustainable solutions to alleviate poverty in underserved communities, gaining experience in Main Street planning, economic‑development research, and organizational capacity‑building.

Duties
  • Develop internal planning and project‑management tools for Main Street revitalization initiatives.
  • Create partnership‑mapping frameworks documenting public‑and‑private‑sector stakeholders and collaboration structures.
  • Develop internal documentation outlining coordination protocols, roles, and governance structures.
  • Compile and maintain inventories of downtown real estate and historic commercial assets.
  • Create research summaries and reference guides related to historic preservation and redevelopment planning.
  • Develop internal business‑development planning tools supporting entrepreneurship and innovation strategies.
  • Create internal reporting templates for board documentation, annual planning, and organizational tracking.
  • Develop systems for organizing staff‑provided financial records and program documentation to support long‑term operational efficiency.
Qualifications
  • United States citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • College graduate.
  • Agrees to provide information to establish eligibility and to complete a National Service Criminal History Check.
Physical Requirements

Commitment to inclusion of all qualified individuals with reasonable accommodations for disabilities. Some duties may require occasional overnight travel, non‑traditional hours, mobility across varied terrain, use of program‑specific tools and technology, lifting objects up to 25 pounds, and safe driving of organizational vehicles.

Time Requirements
  • Full‑time service (35–40 hours per week), schedule may vary.
  • Member may be required to participate in national, state, or local service projects or events during the term.
Orientation and Training
  • Receive orientation including training on Ameri Corps prohibited and unallowable activities.
  • Receive Virtual Member Orientation (VMO) from VISTA on the first day of service.

  • Segal Ameri Corps Education Award of $7,395.00 or choice of cash stipend of ~ $1,800.00.
  • Living Allowance of $68.39 per day, disbursed every two weeks.

Performance Evaluation and Reporting

Performance will be evaluated based on completion of the required year of service, satisfactory completion of assignments, and meeting other clearly communicated criteria. Reporting requirements include bi‑weekly timesheets, accomplishment tracking, and quarterly reporting.
