General Function Under the supervision of the Director of Development or assigned staff, the Volunteer Coordinator organizes all aspects of the volunteer program, including recruitment, orientation, recognition, tracking, reporting, and evaluation.
The role supports the YMCA mission and demonstrates commitment to YMCA Core Values:
Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. The Volunteer Coordinator works closely with staff to develop and utilize volunteers effectively and ensure program goals are met.

Job Responsibilities Develop and maintain partnerships with community agencies and organizations for volunteer cultivation
Keep staff informed of volunteer roles and functions
Ensure volunteers receive proper training and support
Build a volunteer pool to support programs, facilities, and fundraising initiatives
Transition volunteers from casual to committed roles
Motivate, monitor, and recognize volunteers for accomplishments
Implement and maintain a volunteer tracking system (hours, contact info, certifications, background checks, expertise)
Collaborate with the Director of Business Services to facilitate background checks and maintain volunteer documentation
Educate and train volunteers on the YMCA mission and impact
Interview, screen, and assign volunteers to appropriate departments
Coordinate volunteer recognition events and develop volunteer orientation
Represent and promote the volunteer program in the community
Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Bachelor’s degree preferred
Previous experience organizing volunteers preferred
Strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal, time management, and project management skills
Ability to make independent decisions and problem solve effectively
Strong interviewing, screening, and communication skills, including public speaking and presentations
Proficient in Microsoft Office and standard business software
Ability to handle multiple responsibilities with a “can do” attitude
Physical Requirements Bend and stoop occasionally
Lift up to 25 pounds occasionally

Enhance YMCA programming and services through volunteer contributions
Increase staff involvement of volunteers across departments
Ensure the volunteer program is a vital component of the YMCAGrow the number of volunteer campaigners to support annual campaigns
