Job Purpose

To create and implement a comprehensive donor stewardship and recognition program based on The School’s mission and goals. The program will enhance the impact of all fundraising activities, including but not limited to a comprehensive multi-million dollar capital campaign.

Essential Responsibilities Donor Stewardship
  • Act as the primary writer of materials for stewardship and other development team efforts.
  • Manage stewardship and recognition programs for the highest-level donors, providing excellent relationship management and prompt follow up.
  • Assist gift officers and campaign volunteers in developing meaningful engagement activities for donors and prospects resulting in personalized experiences.
  • Plan and implement donor stewardship events (site tours, small group gatherings, etc.)
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure the timely and accurate completion of routine work such as gift acknowledgements, donor meetings, event invitations, etc.
  • Work with the Director of Development and campaign leadership to manage and regularly update donor recognition opportunities.
  • Work with donors to ensure their satisfaction with recognition plans and execution.
Other Functions
  • Work with leadership, gift officers, project and program staff to conceptualize, create, and/or refine communication materials for fundraising purposes, including proposals, reports, programmatic write-ups, and one-pagers for principal and major gift prospects/donors.
  • Acknowledgement letter templates.
  • Gift impact presentations (e.g. Power Points).
  • Personalized letters, talking points and other forms of communication from the Head of School, Director of Development, and campaign leadership.
  • Other donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship pieces, as directed.
  • Serve as a thought partner to frontline fundraisers to develop and refine strategic messaging and communications for donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Work collaboratively across all school departments and programs to enhance the impact and reach of AIS messaging to the philanthropic community.
  • Complete other projects as programmatic responsibilities and writing assignments shift.
Qualifications and Competencies
  • Superior professional writing skills.
  • Superior listening skills and the ability to translate insights gained from donor interaction into highly tailored written communications.
  • Professional credibility, sound judgment, and the ability to develop and maintain with members of the AIS community responsible for gift intent fulfillment.
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and deliver quick turnaround in an environment demanding high energy, attention to accuracy and detail, discretion and flexibility.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
  • Creative and resourceful problem-solving skills and an eagerness to take initiative to handle requests and resolve issues quickly with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work collegially in a diverse and collaborative environment to help ensure coordinated, integrated, and efficient workflow.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-cultural situations.
Education and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 5 Years successful non profit writing experience or equivalent.
  • Strong organizational skills and excellent interpersonal skills, including writing, hosting events, and other communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team.
  • Proficiency with a wide variety of software, including database (Raiser’s Edge for Windows preferred), word-processing (Microsoft Word for Windows preferred), spreadsheet (Excel preferred), and electronic mail.
  • Some travel and weekend work may be required.
