Description:
Under the direction of the RN Supervisor, the LPN Wing Supervisor carries out the medical plan of care and oversees the Nursing Assistants' care of residents. This role requires a passion for working with and interacting with residents daily. Administers and records medication, treatments, and monitoring as ordered, and reports and documents resident responses. Accurately transcribes physician's orders. Completes monthly summaries as scheduled.
Reviews care plans with Nursing Assistants on monthly summary day and updates care plans to reflect current resident conditions. Notifies the RN Supervisor immediately of significant changes in resident conditions. Reports and records changes in resident condition to the RN Supervisor. Communicates resident transfers to immediate family and via email to department heads. Completes transfer forms for all transfers. Updates care plans with clear, concise, time-limited goals and directs the team to implement approaches.
Assists physicians with rounds, examinations, and treatments as needed. Collects laboratory specimens and arranges for delivery to the laboratory. Documents when laboratory work is done. In the event of resident death, supervises and assists with postmortem procedures and notifies appropriate departments. Encourages resident participation in scheduled activities. Reports changes in resident conditions, care plan changes, and special assignments to the team.
Assists the RN Supervisor with annual evaluations of nursing assistants. Writes commendations and counseling records as needed. Accurately completes incident reports or assists team members in writing reports. Documents weights and vital signs, following up as needed. Cleans and stocks treatment trays daily. Prepares daily reports for the wing. Counts narcotics with another nurse at the beginning and end of the shift.
Maintains an accurate inventory of resident belongings. Ensures a clean, safe, and healthy environment and reports potential safety hazards. Supervises and directs resident care carried out by nursing assistants to ensure prescribed care plans are followed. Performs additional duties as directed by the supervisor. Attends care plan conferences for assigned residents as requested. Assists in the orientation of new nursing staff.
Adjusts staffing assignments as needed to ensure quality care. Conducts team conferences as needed. Assures that staff is familiar with changes in policies and procedures. Updates the daily census as necessary. Monitors documentation for completeness and compliance with regulations. Collects data for quality assurance studies as directed. Monitors nurse aide job performance for compliance with infection control practices. Provides direct care for residents as necessary.
Seeks clarification or guidance to perform responsibilities when in doubt. Documents drug disposal in resident charts. Attends in-services, department meetings, and committee meetings as required. Assists Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) on the hall as needed. Maintains good physical health and mental alertness to complete job functions in a timely manner. Possesses knowledge of the principles of good body mechanics. Maintains a courteous and professional manner toward residents, visitors, and co-workers.
Awareness of cost containment while utilizing time efficiently and properly caring for equipment is preferred. Must be free of communicable disease.
