Registered Nurse (RN) - Special Duty Float (Miners Medical Center)

Job Type: Full Time | Varied 3-12 hour shifts one week. The next week 3-12 shift and an eight-hour shift. Every other weekend and holidays.

Registered Nurses at Conemaugh Miners are uniquely cross‑trained to work in both the Emergency Department and Medical‑Surgical unit, offering diverse clinical experience and the opportunity to build a broad, well‑rounded skill set. This role provides variety in daily practice, as nurses rotate between departments and gain exposure to multiple patient populations and acuity levels. How you'll contribute
  • Coordinate the Patient Care Team's delivery of personalized, efficient care with respect for patients' spiritual and cultural differences.
  • Promote factors related to safety, effectiveness and cost in planning and delivering patient care.
  • Provide patient assessment throughout patient stay while maintaining a therapeutic partnership with patient, family and care givers. Provide initial and ongoing assessment and care.
  • Initiate individualized patient and family teaching plans.
  • Demonstrate competency in safe medication administration.
  • Implement physician orders and record/reports critical results appropriately.
  • Collaborate with physicians regarding patient care.
  • Make decisions and judgments in preventing, analyzing and resolving patient care concerns using critical thinking skills.
  • Effectively communicate patient's status and anticipate situations that prevent/minimize adverse outcomes.
  • Complete and demonstrate annual departmental and nursing division competencies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patients, hospital and employee‑related information. Comply with HIPAA regulations.

Completes the following:

  • Attends and participates, as a minimum requirement, in six (6) staff meetings annually. Reads all staff meeting minutes not attended.
  • Biannual requirement of 30 Contact Education hours.

Maintains proficiency in all aspects of documentation.

Participates in Performance Improvement unit‑based activities and hospital based as directed.

Commits to Service Excellence and continually strives toward achievement of the Standards of Care.

Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of patient’s rights.

Supports HCAHPS activities.

Qualifications
  • Current state RN license and a degree from an accredited nursing school.
  • Associate required, Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • One year Medical/Surgical nursing experience preferred.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • ACLS and PALS certification within six (6) months of hire.
  • Completion of an approved Basic Dysrhythmia Course within six (6) months of hire.
  • Critical Care Course or Basic Coronary Care Course preferred.
