Job Summary

In keeping with our organization's goal of improving the lives of the residents we serve, the RN Staff Educator / Infection Preventionist plays a critical role in providing superior customer service and nursing services throughout the facility. The primary purpose of this position is to plan, organize, develop, and direct staff development and educational programs in accordance with current federal, state, and local regulations.

This role is also responsible for overseeing the facility's Infection Prevention and Control Program by monitoring infection surveillance activities, promoting regulatory compliance, and educating staff on infection prevention best practices.

The RN Staff Educator / Infection Preventionist provides learning opportunities that enable employees to develop the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to perform their duties safely and effectively while supporting quality resident care.

Essential

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and up-to-date records of new hire orientation and ongoing staff development programs.

  • Plans, coordinates, and conducts employee education and competency training.

  • Oversees the facility's Infection Prevention and Control Program, including surveillance, tracking, reporting, and staff education.

  • Monitors infection trends and assists with implementing corrective actions to reduce healthcare-associated infections.

  • Ensures compliance with CDC, CMS, Department of Health, and facility infection prevention standards.

  • Implements nursing policies and procedures that reflect the facility's mission and philosophy.

  • Works closely with department heads to assess ongoing educational needs and develop training initiatives.

  • Utilizes resources efficiently to promote the highest practicable physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of residents.

  • Teaches classroom and clinical education under the supervision of the Director of Nursing.

  • Makes routine rounds throughout the facility to observe staff performance, monitor regulatory compliance, evaluate clinical competencies, and identify educational opportunities.

  • Assists the Director of Nursing with survey readiness, quality assurance initiatives, and Department of Health survey preparation.

Required

Skills & Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

  • Active Pennsylvania Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory or leadership experience in a long-term care setting.

  • Previous experience as a Staff Educator, Infection Preventionist, Unit Manager, or other nursing leadership role preferred.

  • Formal infection prevention training through the CDC or State Health Department preferred.

  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) or Long-Term Care Certification in Infection Prevention (LTC-CIP) required.

  • Working knowledge of professional nursing standards and long-term care regulations.

  • Ability to develop nursing policies and educational programs that reflect current clinical practice and regulatory requirements.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and presentation skills.

  • Knowledge of infection prevention principles, surveillance, and outbreak management.

  • Knowledge of MDS and the care planning process preferred.

  • Current knowledge of state and federal regulations governing long-term care.
