This position provides hands‑on nursing services that support the daily health needs of individuals housed at SCI Coal Township. It focuses on carrying out care plans and delivering essential clinical support.
Responsibilities- Clinical Support
:
Perform nursing tasks such as taking vital signs, assisting with treatments, and supporting activities of daily living. - Medication Administration
:
Prepare and administer prescribed medications and record all related actions accurately. - Emergency Response
:
Provide first aid, CPR, or AED support during medical emergencies as appropriate. - Health Documentation
:
Maintain accurate electronic health records and prepare reports needed for care continuity. - Care Coordination
:
Communicate important information to nursing, custody, and administrative staff to support safe operations. - Supply Management
:
Sterilize equipment and maintain proper inventory levels for treatment areas.
- Full‑time employment.
- The Department of Corrections is staffed by three work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year:
- 1st shift: 6:00 am to 2:30 pm; 2nd shift: 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm; 3rd shift: 10:00 pm to 6:30 am.
- Work hours to be determined.
- Alternative work schedules may be available, depending on operational needs.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Telework:
You will not have the option to telework in this position. - Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $68,914 before taxes.

- Active authorization to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Pennsylvania.
- All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse within one year.
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- If you are within 60 days of completing a licensed practical nursing program approved by the State Board of Nursing, you are eligible to apply. At the time of appointment you must show proof of possession of a current, valid PA temporary practice permit or PA Licensed Practical Nurse license.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
