The Opportunity

We are looking for capable, patient-focused Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to join our collaborative 4-nurse medical team for the 2026 summer season. This is a pure staff nursing role focused on clinical excellence, day-to-day triage, and community engagement. The ideal candidate is naturally organized, level-headed during high-energy camp activities, clear in their clinical decision-making, and excited to spend the summer living and working in an active, mission-driven community.

Core

Responsibilities

Daily Clinical Care & Triage

  • Provide high-quality nursing care and walk-in triage within our structured 8-bed camp infirmary.
  • Work collaboratively with three peer staff nurses and rotating visiting physicians to ensure seamless, round-the-clock medical coverage.
  • Assist the team with setting up and organizing the clinic space during pre-camp preparation weeks.

Medication Tracking & Administration

  • Oversee and execute daily medication roll calls (roughly 30% of our camper population receives daily scheduled prescriptions).
  • Liaise with regional pharmacies and medical providers to manage prescription refills and tracking.
  • Log precise, highly confidential charts using the camp's secure digital health record database.
  • Administer on-site point-of-care diagnostic assessments (such as rapid strep tests) when symptoms arise.
  • Conduct brief, straightforward safety demonstrations for camp counselors (e.g., proper emergency Epi Pen administration).
  • Maintain open, comforting, and professional lines of communication with parents regarding their children's health updates.

Emergency Care & Safety Compliance

  • Respond to acute pediatric injuries or medical emergencies with a grounded, clear-headed presence.
  • Execute established transfer protocols for patients requiring off-site urgent care or local hospital evaluations.
  • Operate with an emergency-ready mindset (local Wayne County emergency ambulance response times average 25–30 minutes, making initial on-site preparedness crucial).
  • Partner directly with visiting physicians (on-site for 5 out of 7 core program weeks; a supportive nursing schedule ensures extra coverage when a physician is off-camp).
Minimum Prerequisites
  • Valid, active license as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in good standing.
  • A minimum of 4 years of post-licensure professional nursing experience.
  • At least 3 years of clinical experience working directly with pediatric populations or adolescents (ages 6–17).
  • Comfortable explaining and demonstrating basic first-aid procedures to young adult camp counselors.
  • Exceptional time-management skills, strong organizational habits, and…
