The OpportunityAs an Unlicensed Veterinary Technician at Nonantum, you'll work closely with our veterinarians and medical team throughout the patient care process. This position combines hands-on nursing care, anesthesia and surgical support, diagnostics, client education, and day-to-day hospital operations.
Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities- Deliver nursing care to hospitalized patients, including IV catheter placement, CRI management, medication administration, feeding tube placement, and ongoing patient monitoring.
- Prepare patients for surgical procedures and provide anesthesia monitoring and recovery care, with a focus on safety and patient comfort throughout the process.
- Partner with veterinarians during examinations, diagnostic procedures, treatments, and surgeries by providing appropriate restraint, preparation, and patient monitoring.
- Conduct laboratory diagnostics such as urinalysis, hematology, fecal testing, and cytology, while accurately documenting, interpreting, and communicating results as appropriate.
- Operate and maintain radiology and ultrasound equipment while following established safety and regulatory standards.
- Prepare and administer prescribed medications, vaccines, and treatments in accordance with DEA, OSHA, and hospital requirements.
- Complete daily controlled drug logs and ensure controlled substances are handled, stored, and documented appropriately.
- Create, review, and accurately enter treatment plans into the medical record system.
- Help maintain efficient hospital operations through accurate medical records, charge entry, and chart auditing.
- Provide clients with compassionate and easy-to-understand education regarding preventative care, treatment plans, medications, products, and nutritional recommendations.
- Keep treatment and surgical spaces clean, organized, stocked, and prepared for medical and surgical procedures, including maintaining sterile conditions as required.
- Monitor inventory, rotate supplies, and assist with ordering medical supplies when needed.
- Contribute to a positive, professional workplace by communicating effectively and working collaboratively with teammates across the hospital.
- Perform additional responsibilities as needed to support the needs of the hospital.
- Perform all duties in accordance with applicable state practice acts, legal requirements, and hospital policies.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- At least two years of experience working as a Veterinary Technician preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency in anesthesia monitoring, venipuncture, laboratory procedures, radiology, and dentistry.
- Basic computer proficiency, including the ability to navigate practice management software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong communication and organizational abilities, with the ability to work effectively within a collaborative team.
- The ability to remain professional, composed, and exercise sound judgment in high-stress or emotionally charged situations.
