About Hiking Hound Adventures, LLC

Hiking Hound Adventures, LLC provides outdoor education and guided adventure programs that help people of all ages build confidence, practical skills, and a meaningful connection to the outdoors. Our programs include hiking, backpacking, kayaking, canoeing, outdoor skills courses, youth programs, camps, and family adventures. We prioritize safety, inclusivity, environmental stewardship, and welcoming participants who are new to outdoor recreation.

Position Overview

Outdoor Education Instructors lead and support a variety of outdoor programs throughout the season. Instructors work collaboratively as part of a team and may support multiple program types depending on experience, certifications, and interest. Responsibilities grow over time as instructors build skills, demonstrate strong safety practices, and gain familiarity with our programs.

This role is well-suited for educators and outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy variety, teamwork, and building inclusive outdoor experiences.

Role Growth and Advancement

Outdoor Education Instructors begin with responsibilities appropriate to their experience level. As instructors gain confidence and experience, opportunities may expand to include:

  • Leading higher-responsibility programs such as multi-day backpacking or paddling trips
  • Serving as a lead instructor during camps or large group programs
  • Mentoring and supporting newer or seasonal instructors
  • Assisting with trip planning, logistics, and pre-program briefings
  • Contributing to curriculum development and program improvements

Instructors are not required to pursue all growth opportunities. Advancement is flexible and based on individual interests, certifications, and availability.

Key Responsibilities

Program Instruction and Leadership

  • Lead and assist with outdoor programs including hiking, backpacking, kayaking, canoeing, outdoor skills workshops, camps, and youth programs
  • Adapt instruction to varying ages, abilities, and experience levels
  • Serve as a positive role model for participants

Safety and Risk Management

  • Maintain participant safety as the top priority
  • Conduct basic risk assessments and monitor weather and environmental conditions
  • Follow and enforce company safety protocols and Leave No Trace principles

Participant Engagement

  • Create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
  • Encourage confidence, curiosity, and environmental stewardship
  • Provide clear instruction, demonstrations, and constructive feedback

Program and Team Support

  • Assist with program setup, breakdown, and equipment management
  • Support fellow instructors during programs and camps
  • Contribute to trip preparation, rosters, and basic logistics as needed

Communication and Professionalism

  • Communicate clearly and professionally with participants, families, and staff
  • Represent Hiking Hound Adventures, LLC in a positive and professional manner
Qualifications

Required

  • Passion for outdoor education and working with people
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Physical ability to lead active outdoor programs in varied terrain and weather
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license
  • Clean FBI Child Abuse clearance and criminal background check
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain before starting

Preferred

  • Experience leading or assisting outdoor programs such as hiking, backpacking, kayaking, or canoeing
  • Experience working with children, teens, or families
  • Additional certifications such as Wilderness First Aid, Wilderness First Responder, ACA…
