The Hospital

This AAHA-accredited, multi-service general practice, emergency, and specialty hospital has been thoughtfully renovated to support excellent care and a positive working environment. The facility features multiple exam rooms, several surgical suites, updated treatment areas, and ICU wards, plus a quiet, dedicated space for hospitalized avian, reptile, and small mammal patients. On-site capabilities include ultrasound (including cardiac studies), endoscopy, temperature-controlled ICU units with oxygen support, and electrocautery.

The specialist will collaborate closely with established services in surgery, internal medicine, and critical care, supported by a seasoned technical team and a culture that values teaching, case discussion, and continuous learning. Full-time and part-time schedules are available.

The Role
  • Provide specialist-level care for avian, small mammal, reptile, and other exotic patients in a collaborative GP, ER, and specialty setting
  • Perform and interpret diagnostics and procedures including ultrasound and endoscopy; guide ICU management for exotic species
  • Partner with surgery, internal medicine, and critical care on advanced case workups and co-managed treatment plans
  • Support triage and case consultation for exotic emergencies and referrals
  • Develop and refine protocols for anesthesia, analgesia, and inpatient care of non-traditional species
  • Mentor veterinarians and technicians; contribute to rounds and in-hospital education
  • Engage in strong, empathetic client communication and follow-up
  • Full-time or part-time scheduling available
Requirements
  • DVM or VMD (or equivalent)
  • Active Pennsylvania veterinary license or eligibility to obtain
  • Eligibility to work in the United States
  • Board-certified or residency-trained in Zoological Medicine or Avian/Exotics
