The French‑German Research Institute of Saint‑Louis (ISL) situated in the border triangle of Germany, France and Switzerland is an internationally renowned research institute belonging to a global industrial and economic network. The spectrum of our core activities comprises a variety of topics: aerodynamics, energetic and advanced materials, lasers and electromagnetic technologies, protection, security and situational awareness. Our activities are related to both basic and applied research.
For immediate placement, we are currently looking for a
Research scientist for fibre laser sources (m/f/d). The successful candidate will be employed in our group for Directed Photonics and Applications (DPA).
DPA group designs, develops and tests high energy laser sources (laser weapons), laser sources and non-linear converters for optronic countermeasures as well as components of these sources. They also perform laboratory trials and measurements and participate in national experimental campaigns. On behalf of the French and German governments, our DPA group provides specific expertise for laser development and applications (optronic countermeasures).
Your new tasks and responsibilities – challenging and future-oriented
In your new position you will:
- Design and develop novel fibre laser sources for military applications, especially in the field of optronic countermeasures. This includes:
- Near IR/Mid IR fibre lasers
- Numerical simulation and design of laser cavities and amplifiers
- Analysing, validating and tracking of research results
- Working on research contracts (acquiring, planning and preparing contracts, conducting research activities)
- Supervising PhD and master students as well as interns
- Writing scientific publications, articles and reports ; preparing presentations
- Enhancing our know-how, monitoring and improving the state of the art; participating in scientific colloquiums and workshops; presenting results and activities
Your qualifications – solid and appropriate
- PhD in laser physics, photonics or solid-state physics
- Experience in the following fields: fibre lasers, laser physics, development of laser sources or non-linear converters
- Knowledge of optronics for defence applications would be appreciated
- Good communication skills. You like to work in a team and appreciate an interdisciplinary working environment. You are a good organiser and adapt easily to new situations
- Very good command of English. A good command of French and/or German would be an advantage
