Research Scientist, Pharmaceutical Science/ Research
Merck & Co., a global biopharmaceutical leader, is seeking a Senior Scientist for its Vaccine Analytical Research & Development department at its West Point, Pennsylvania research facility. The role will focus on developing state-of-the-art analytical techniques and providing in-depth expertise in separation science to support vaccine adjuvant development.
Responsibilities- Solve complex analytical problems at the interface of biology, chemistry, and lab informatics.
- Develop and validate separation techniques (HPLC, CE, SEC, LC-MS) for small molecules, polymers, proteins, and conjugates.
- Apply spectroscopic techniques (UV-VIS, IR, fluorescence) for molecular structure characterization.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in process development, formulation development, and vaccine investigations.
- Document and publish scientific findings, assist in the preparation of regulatory filings (IND, BLA).
- Ph.D. in analytical chemistry, chemistry, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, or related field.
- M.S. with at least 4 years of experience in Biotech/Pharmaceutical Industry.
- B.S. with at least 7 years of experience in Biotech/Pharmaceutical Industry.
- Strong knowledge of separation science (HPLC, CE, LC-MS) demonstrated by publications.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and cross-functionally.
- Experience with qualification, validation, and transfer of assays to a GLP or regulated laboratory environment under ICH Q2 and USP.
- Experience representing analytical functional area on project teams and authoring internal technical reports and regulatory filings.
- Ability to meet aggressive timelines in a rapidly changing environment.
- Experience with release, characterization, and stability assay development for clinical trial material.
- Strong scientific leadership and publication record.
- Experience in vaccine adjuvant development.
Salary range: $ - $. Eligibility for annual bonus and long-term incentive, subject to company policy.
